The child above seemed startled, then tumbled down from the edge of the crumbling stone wall.
Yan Jiayu hurriedly reached out to catch her. As soon as the child landed in her arms, she began crying in fright, and a foul smell wafted from her pants.
"Is this a child who got pulled into the Dungeon?" Yan Jiayu stroked the girl's head. "Don't cry. Big sister will give you some candy."
Xu Huo turned to Peng Ru. "Aren't you a Preschool Teacher?"
Peng Ru walked over to Yan Jiayu and held out her arms. "Let me hold her."
Yan Jiayu was about to speak, but the little girl threw herself into Peng Ru's arms.
When Peng Ru touched the girl's pants, which were stained unevenly, her expression changed for an instant. She quickly hid it and stroked the girl's face. "She must have been frightened."
Yan Jiayu gave the child some candy and asked, "Have you seen any other children?"
The little girl held candy in her mouth, tears welling in her eyes. She hugged the Doll tightly but wouldn't speak.
"What could a child this young know?" Tang Xiao said. "She's probably scared witless. There's only one of her anyway, so we might as well take her along."
The others had no objections. They were about to continue when Peng Ru's head suddenly jerked back. Frowning, she looked at the child in her arms. "Sweetie, could you please stop pulling Auntie's hair?"
The little girl's eyes filled with tears again, and she shrank back in fear.
Seeing this, Yan Jiayu said, "Maybe she grabbed it by accident. Let me take her. I used to look after children."
Peng Ru would have gladly handed her over, but the girl seemed to have chosen her.
