Chapter 299: A Clash of Personalities
Xu Huo was perfectly clearheaded. He knew Xu Zhi was dead. Even when he saw him in the hospital, it was only a hallucination.
The hospital might not be the Dungeon itself, but there was no doubt it could affect people's mental states.
The "real world" they saw after escaping, the "family" who dragged them to the hospital for treatment, and the "relatives" who visited them were all steps in the destruction of their Spiritual World.
When your most certain, deeply ingrained beliefs were overturned, anyone would begin to doubt themselves. Everyone who came here had been affected to some degree. The worse their mental state became, the more complete this mental hospital seemed to be.
"Xu Huo?" Yu Qingqing waved a hand in front of his eyes.
"I want to change clothes," Xu Huo said, heading to his room. He opened the wardrobe to find a full set of new clothes and shoes inside.
He changed out of his patient's uniform and went to the Reception Room.
By then, it was already dark.
Father Xu and Ms. Fang sat close together. Their eyes reddened when they saw him. Xu Zhi stood to one side, looking more mature and weathered than Xu Huo remembered.
"You haven't shaved," Xu Huo said, pointing at Xu Zhi's chin.
Xu Zhi smiled. "I've been so busy lately I haven't had time to tidy myself up. You've managed to keep yourself looking pretty sharp, though. Not bad."
They sat down. Ms. Fang first asked how he was doing in the hospital, whether he was feeling all right, and if he had enough to eat and wear. She also brought out a large bag of clothes she'd prepared in advance.
Xu Huo accepted the things, then turned to Xu Zhi.
