Xu Huo's Door
The Bandage Monster flew out and knocked over another one with it. Yan Jiayu rubbed her hands together, picked up the tabletop again, and asked Xu Huo, "Are you okay? How do we get out of here?"
"Downstairs." Xu Huo turned and headed for the stairwell. The hospital's floors represented different levels of Mental Contamination, from the first floor to the sixth, with the sixth floor being the worst. That meant he couldn't successfully open a door there.
"Then downstairs it is!" Yan Jiayu said. "You go first. I'll cover the rear."
More and more "security guards" were appearing on the sixth floor. The others didn't waste time talking and hurried down the stairs in an orderly line.
By then, most of the walls on the fifth floor had crumbled away, leaving every room in plain view. Those things, which were almost but not quite human, roamed the floor, carrying black mist that spread like a source of infection. Most of the floor had turned black, and the rooms and floor were growing blurry, too.
"This floor looks like a 3D game..." Sima Xiao Er said without thinking. But when he looked down and saw his own feet covered in something like flying gnats, he cried out, "I'm turning into a Monster, too!"
He wasn't the only one. After they reached the fifth floor, only Xu Huo at the front and Yan Jiayu at the rear remained untouched by the contamination.
The two exchanged a glance through the crowd. Xu Huo said, "Pick up the pace. We have to get downstairs before the whole building is contaminated!"
As soon as he moved, Sima Xiao Er and the others followed. Along the way, they found a number of tools and fought their way down to the Third Floor.
