The building had been infused with the power of an item, so the Special Defense Department had prepared explosives to blast a hole in the wall.
From the preparations to the blast and the Special Defense Department players' entry, the undercover players inside the building gave no warning at all, as if they had gone completely silent.
The drones and surveillance robots sent in ahead of time stopped working after only a short while. With no eyes or ears inside, the Special Defense Department could only send players in to scout.
Xu Huo changed into a Special Defense Department uniform and followed the scouting team into the building.
The building was deserted. Music spilled from shops whose doors had yet to be closed. Pop and electronic music mingled, somehow creating an effect that seemed to grow more intense in the spacious interior, as if it were coming from a deep cave.
"Everyone, watch out for items!" The squad leader at the front raised a hand to signal the team to stop, then fired twice at a giant doll straight ahead.
The bullets passed through the doll and hit the wall behind it. Only after confirming it wasn't an item did the leader signal for the others to split up and head for the stairs.
But as they made their way toward the stairs, the doll they had shot suddenly sprang up. Its belly gaped open as it lurched toward the players.
"Watch your feet!" A player rushed forward and threw a top. When it landed, it spun and released several smaller tops attached to strings. They whirled around and tripped the doll.
Bang! Bang! Bang! A volley of bullets riddled the doll until it stopped struggling. All that showed inside was scorched stuffing.
