"Master Xiao."
"That's everything I know."
"Old Bai had carried that jade orb around for so many years, and I'd never heard of anything strange happening."
"Everyone joked that the jade orb would become a family heirloom for Old Bai's family."
"Passed down from generation to generation."
"If things went on like this, maybe it really would bring them protection."
Boss Cai picked up the teacup beside him and took a sip.
He'd said so much that his mouth had gone dry.
"Master Xiao?"
The silence on the phone prompted Boss Cai to speak up.
"Old Bai and I only get along on the surface. We don't have much contact privately, so all I know is what everyone knows."
"Was that not helpful?"
"No."
Xiao Xiao smiled.
"I was just a little curious about that jade orb."
"Boss Cai, thank you for telling me all this."
"Oh, Master Xiao, there's no need to be so formal."
Though he regretted that he hadn't learned anything, Boss Cai quickly put on a broad smile.
"It's no big deal."
"What's there to thank me for?"
"Is there anything else you want to ask, Master Xiao?"
Boss Cai was hoping he might get a little more information from Master Xiao. "I'll tell you everything I know, and hold nothing back."
"No, that's all."
Xiao Xiao had learned everything he wanted to know.
Boss Bai hadn't gotten the jade orb recently. He'd inherited it from his father.
His father had owned it for most of his life.
He'd even carried it with him all the time.
He'd regarded it as a protective charm.
That showed Xiao Xiao's initial guess had been right: the jade orb hadn't harmed the person who possessed it.
So he had no compelling reason to intervene.
