Is it that obvious?
The old man thought to himself.
"Enough."
The old woman waved a hand. "Let's skip that question for now."
What she really wanted to know were the other questions.
"Don't dodge the important part."
"Who was that young man?"
"He was a very polite kid."
"How come I've never seen him before?"
"Of course you've never seen him before."
The old man pursed his lips.
"I met him for the first time today, too."
"Huh?"
The old woman looked surprised.
"You two met for the first time today?"
How could that be?
When she'd gone over earlier, she'd gotten the impression that the old man and that young man had been talking for quite a while.
The atmosphere between them hadn't felt stiff, like two strangers making awkward conversation.
And yet this was really their first time meeting?
"Yeah."
The old man sounded reflective.
"That young man was not only very polite, but also very bold."
"He came straight to me and started talking."
"What for?"
The old woman cut right to the point.
"Why did he come looking for you?"
"You talked for quite a while, didn't you?"
If the old man had been late coming home because of that young man, then they really must have talked for some time.
"Mm."
For a moment, the old man's expression grew distant.
"We did talk for quite a while."
He'd finally gotten an answer to the biggest question that had been troubling him lately.
But he'd also gained a lot more questions.
"He was very polite, that's true."
The old man smiled and changed the subject.
"He was also very bold."
Once again, the old man stressed that point.
"Bold?"
The old woman noticed how he'd emphasized it.
