Child's Dad rushed over and caught the child as he fell off the stool.
His momentum carried him onward, and he toppled sideways onto the bed beside them.

Child's Mom felt her way onto the bed and sat down.

Child's Dad sat up.

He checked the child all over. "Are you all right?"
"Did you get hurt anywhere?"

Child's Dad's voice reminded Child's Mom of what had happened.
She immediately moved closer to the child.
"Lei Lei."
Child's Mom's voice trembled.
The hand she raised to touch the child was trembling too.
"Are you all right?"

His eyes were unfocused.
A moment ago, he had been truly terrified.
He clutched the front of his shirt.
Even now, the sensation of falling still made him feel a little sick.

Seeing how pale the child was, Child's Mom immediately reached out and held his shoulders.
She pressed her cheek against his.
"It's all right now,"
Child's Mom said gently.
"Daddy caught you."
"You're safe."
As his mother softly reassured him, the child's stiff, trembling body gradually relaxed, and he stopped shaking.
The child nestled in his mother's arms.
At last, he managed to speak. "M-Mom..."
"That scared me so much."
"You scared us too."
