"Splash~"
A splashing sound came from the pond.
Madam Xiao had just opened the gate and walked into the courtyard. At the sound, she looked over.
Even though this wasn't the first time she'd seen it,
watching one patch of duckweed after another disappear before her eyes, as if something were eating it, still struck her as both unbelievable and a little strange.
There really were fish in the pond.
Madam Xiao looked at it with a sigh, still unable to shake the feeling that it wasn't real.
It seemed she would need some time to accept this fact.
Then she looked toward the larger pond beneath the White Plum Blossom tree.
Compared with the occasional noises from the pond beneath the Wutong Tree, that pond was so quiet that she couldn't help feeling a little doubtful.
She couldn't help walking over.
"Mom."
Xiao Xiao walked over.
"Xiao Xiao, are there really fish in this pond?"
Madam Xiao couldn't help asking again.
"Mm, there are."
Xiao Xiao looked at the Chirú gliding freely along the bottom.
Its pale-red scales, outlined in silver, shimmered in the sunlight.
The Pearl-bearing Fish looked much the same as it did in the fish tank.
It rested at the bottom of the pond, all four eyes closed, looking as though it were fast asleep.
The six legs at its sides drifted gently with the current.
"But they're rather quiet by nature."
Xiao Xiao smiled. "They're not as rambunctious as the ones over there."
"Oh, I see."
Madam Xiao nodded. Looking at the still, tranquil surface, she thought that they really were quiet.
She hadn't heard even the faintest sound of water moving.
After a few days of curiosity, the Xiao Family grew used to the pond
