Against all the glittering finery, the golden fruit had something of a sacred lamp's aura.
"Oh, wow. We did it," Babaru said without a hint of emotion as he surveyed the tree's golden splendor. He genuinely didn't see what was so appealing about a shiny plastic tree like this. Now, a tree covered in spicy dried fish and terror bird eggs—that would be festive.
