On the way back, Yang Mingzhao went over the First Lady's résumé several times in his mind.
Her maiden name was Melali Glenzo, daughter of the Glenzo family, one of the Alliance's thirteen great houses. She had been an outstanding student at Alliance Ocean University, graduating from classical literature—a particularly "young lady" sort of major. She had also published collections of poetry and essays, as well as literary criticism. She met Mr. Nishita at a university social. Later, when Mr. Nishita led his university's astronomy club to victory after victory, Melali became the club's manager.
The two married before they even graduated. Mr. Nishita became a promising young lawyer, while Mrs. Nishita became a moderately well-known folklorist and classical literature critic.
Later still, when her husband returned home to enter politics, his wife left everything behind in the Alliance and followed him, bringing their two children with her.
Of course, when Mr. Nishita ran for Parliament, his opponents had attacked him over his wife's Alliance citizenship and aristocratic background. So, in short order, Mrs. Melali, born into one of the thirteen great houses, officially became a citizen of the Commonwealth, with a crowd of reporters there to witness it.
By every measure, they were a perfect model couple! Many people had believed in love again because of them. Some of Mr. Nishita's popularity with the public came from that, too.
It couldn't be helped. No matter how radical a liberal was, deep down, there was still a conservative in there. People valued family and legacy, and loved nothing more than the traditional image of a kind father and filial son, a virtuous wife and an honored husband.
