To be fair, the destruction of Greenfeather Fortress had very little to do with Yu Lian's two knockoff fortress guns. Even if their reactors had exploded on the spot, the most they could have caused was a devastating fire in space. Overall, they would not have had any particularly direct or fatal structural impact on the fortress.
The problem was that the fortress already had structural weaknesses.
The Empire had not provided the Bakuvians with a Skyhold-class core reactor or a large-scale, fully equipped life-support system. Greenfeather Fortress, which the birdmen had spent a fortune building, was less a Skyhold than a hodgepodge of seven or eight lower-tier fortresses bolted together. In a sense, it was much like the large colony ships built by the Marauders... and if you looked closely, its technology might not even have been as advanced as theirs. At least the Marauders' ships could sail, jump, and even undertake a great expedition spanning two million light-years.
Of course, so the fortress wouldn't look too makeshift, the Bakuvians had spent a fortune installing a seamless mirrored armor layer and a liquid-metal outer shell.
At least from the outside, the fortress's overall style no longer looked quite so makeshift, and its external defenses were undeniably sturdy. Unfortunately, beneath that thick, smoothly rounded liquid-metal protection, the safety risks in the fortress's main structure remained an objective reality.
So Yu Lian and his friends had simply planted a large quantity of high explosives at the fortress's critical junctions. Once detonated, the fortress, whose total mass ran into the megatons, would begin to collapse as quickly as possible. But before its main internal structure could cave in completely, its balance and artificial-gravity systems would fail first.
