After leaving Lieutenant General Sylvester's office, Lieutenant Colonel Rozes, his adjutant, hurried over to meet him. In fact, he had been waiting outside the whole time Yu Lian spoke with Lieutenant General Sylvester.
"Did Commander Sylvester approve it?" he asked in a low voice.
When Yu Lian nodded, a flicker of delight immediately crossed Rozes's eyes. Once they had boarded a shuttle inside the fortress and were alone in the cabin, Rozes promptly reported, "The military police have sealed off every entrance and exit in District F and are evacuating the civilians. Fortunately, with the war breaking out, most of the businesses that had already moved in have fled. There are at most three hundred civilians left. We'll need no more than two hours."
"Three hundred people, and it'll still take two hours?" Yu Lian furrowed his brow.
"There are also more than a hundred employees from private security companies. They're armed. They claim they're responsible for protecting private property and can accept requisition orders from the front-line command under the Wartime Regulations and join the fighting, but they can't evacuate."
"So they're willing to be sent up there as cannon fodder, but refuse to leave District F? Isn't that a little contradictory?"
Rozes nodded. "They even produced approval slips from some bigwigs on Earth and said they could get in touch with Earth immediately."
Yu Lian was astounded. "District F still has plenty of unfinished areas. Half the district doesn't even have heating, power, or water. And they rushed to move in anyway? Looks like there really are endless business opportunities here!"
"That's certainly true. When I was stationed on Earth the year before last, I heard rumors about a promising investment on the Far Shore. I thought they meant the Red Maple plant or the ocean farms in
