Tanlian and Sobaike both knew that this fellow wasn't so much requesting reinforcements as informing them: We've done all we can. The enemy had indeed broken through their lines, so would the officers please prepare to be attacked from both front and rear?
This turn of events had been beyond both their expectations. They had thought the Last fleet could hold out for at least another hour or two.
But who could have imagined that a fleet admiral would be taken out by the enemy's very first volley?
"Last, oh, Last, what were you doing?" Vice Admiral Tanlian's voice was almost a wail. But after a brief pause, she continued in a weary tone, "Never mind, never mind. We can't really blame Last for this. The Terran fleet's maneuvering was dazzling, and they did find our weak point. Last did everything he could. He was just a little unlucky."
So why did he have to be the unlucky one? My poor friend Last. Sobaike nodded, his heart heavy with grief.
Perhaps because he was mourning, he failed to notice the thoughtful expression on Vice Admiral Tanlian's face.
Sobaike hadn't known Vice Admiral Last for long, but they had been beaten bloody together, after all. What was that saying? The deepest bonds between comrades were forged not only by charging toward victory together, but by suffering defeat together, too.
But clad in his heraldry armor, he wore the same blank, rigid expression as ever, looking too exhausted even to bother changing his face.
And that was exactly what happened next. At the height of the fighting, Sobaike's fleet continued pouring fire into the Void Lord, but its counterattacks were just as fierce—and uncanny.
By now, even the lightly damaged Moon Rabbit had been thoroughly boarded by tentacle monsters and Void wraiths.
