The moment Yu Lian spoke, everyone aboard the Silent fell into stunned silence. The atmosphere on the ship grew awkward.

Yu Lian and his comrades had, of course, considered all sorts of possibilities. At one extreme, the enemy might refuse to surrender and put up a fight; at the other, they might surrender at the first sign of trouble. But what was unfolding before them was still unexpected.

These people hadn't even waited to see their own side, or hear a single sound. They'd only sensed the faintest hint of impending danger—maybe it was just their imagination—and immediately started crouching with their hands over their heads. Some were even sobbing as they begged for mercy.

Yu Lian glanced at Feifei. She didn't look surprised at all.

"Even space moles have the wisdom to survive. Or rather, no one in the universe understands how to survive and when to bend better than they do." She copied Yu Lian, spreading two fingers apart, and spoke to him telepathically. "My great-grandfather told me that when the Emperor came, they acted even more obsequiously than this."

Since she'd said only "the Emperor," without naming him, she could only mean Emperor Ilesel.

"The Emperor came to Great Freedom City?"

"That was before he ascended the throne, about two hundred years ago. And he came alone, riding a dragon."

Well, bringing a fleet to Great Freedom City wouldn't have been easy for the Emperor. He might as well travel light and bring a dragon along. At the level of a powerful psion, one person could inspire as much fear as an entire fleet.

Just imagining what might have happened when the Emperor visited Great Freedom City made Yu Lian think it must have been quite a spectacle. He almost felt embarrassed to picture it.
