Colonel Singer took his leave for the time being and went back to making preliminary preparations for his intelligence station.
"So, how should I handle this?" Yu Lian asked Feifei.
"An intelligence station? We need one. At the very least, it'll be a useful piece on the board. Colonel Singer will make an excellent intelligence officer, and unless something terribly destabilizing happens, his loyalty is worth trusting," Feifei said.
In other words, if some wild turn of events occurred, his loyalty would start to waver? Well, that fit Yu Lian's stereotype of intelligence agents. He said irritably, "I mean the pirates."
"What matters are the Standard Shipping Association's senior investigator and the Alliance Military Intelligence Bureau's agent." Feifei couldn't help laughing.
Yu Lian nodded. "And the Snake."
"So, which do you think is their true identity?"
"Maybe none of them. Maybe all of them. It just depends on each person's fate and the times they live in." To his surprise, Yu Lian felt a measure of respect for them.
Honestly, he admired people who could dance on so many eggshells.
Then Feifei said, "The Pilgrim still has lifeboats, so let them leave on their own. If we accidentally forget to leave enough supplies and fuel aboard, that can only be a logistics officer's mistake. And if we also forget to repair their broken communicator, that's probably just an oversight by the communications team. The universe is vast. It might take us hundreds or thousands of years to find the frozen lifeboat and its mummified corpses, but that would simply be another of the universe's cryptic hints."
Even if these pirates had committed every imaginable crime and deserved to be executed, they didn't need to die such a torturous death, did they?
"If you think that's too cruel, you could always
