Since everything that followed unfolded peacefully, the only death at the scene stood out all the more. Feifei's gaze fell on the headless corpse, which was still twitching, then shifted to Yani. She looked at her as though sizing up a snake-possessed lunatic with an unstable mind.
"You were the ones who treated it as cannon fodder. The one who leads the charge is always the first to die. Isn't that a law of movies? Feifei, you're the director here." Yani certainly didn't think this was the Overlord himself.
"Those are B-grade horror flicks made to scare people. They're less movies than props for young couples to spice things up. Of course, as a director, I personally have no objection to the genre."
By then, the headless body had gradually stopped twitching. The sheen on its carapace had dimmed, and the reddish-brown flesh began to take on a gray, lifeless hue. Then it dried up and withered away before their eyes.
In just two or three seconds, the giant body, which looked to be at least two and a half meters tall, had turned into a pile of withered, decaying wood.
"Poor Mimic Lord. Little Sister Shali must be heartbroken," Feifei sighed.
"You two are already that close?" Yani asked with interest. She might, possibly, perhaps, have seemed just a tiny bit jealous, but there wasn't any real evidence.
"You'll have to ask him." Feifei glared at Yu Lian. "Meeting this guy is the karmic consequence of my entire life. What can I do? What can I do?"
Her gaze then swept over the red brocade pouch hanging around Yani's neck, and she couldn't help but sneer. She'd seen Yu Lian's pouch before, and had even watched him use it once.
"So you really planned things out to this extent?
