Great. I can imagine plenty of honored observers outside the box feel like I botched the ending, ran away from the outline, and so on and so forth... Well, I can accept that.
But in truth, readers should have been able to tell that by the first half of last year, I'd nearly lost all passion for and connection to this story. The setting had grown too sprawling, too many characters had appeared, and the subject matter was difficult to handle. All of it came down to my ambition exceeding my abilities.
So, I'll lie back and take the mockery.
The fact that this book dragged on for so long was actually thanks to me suddenly getting carried away and adding all sorts of side plots.
But no matter what, as a neurotic little bourgeois, Yu Lian's warlord career did at least have a beginning and an end. The main story, too, had a beginning and an end.
Of course, there are plenty of foreshadowed threads in the book that never got resolved. I'll gradually, whenever the mood strikes, and at a leisurely pace, present them in the upcoming extra stories.
How the great age of the universe will change, and whether the ginger cat and the white cat-fox will get fished up to a lamppost, will both be settled in the future extra stories.
