The assault group, personally led by Viscount Shameen, had punched through several enemy defensive lines, but had still been drawn into a large-scale psionic illusion array by Count Celiola. The knights waiting inside the array faced not only illusions and mist that would disorient them, and spiritual suppression that would sap their stamina and will, but also more than three thousand elite armored grenadiers personally assembled by Brigadier General Kebaide.
Every one of those soldiers had seen combat at least three times. They were skilled fighters, brave and fearless.
Of course, no matter how brave they were, they were still ordinary Imperial soldiers, and the pressure of facing Starrealm Knights made them feel instinctively inferior.
