Kelvin was indeed mortified. To be honest, he had seen the machine parts disappear with his own eyes, heard a "crunch, crunch" sound as if something were being chewed, and even glimpsed a few blurry shadows crawling past him under the faint light of the moon and stars.
But once he told people about it, nobody believed him. Everyone thought Mr. Cowboy was overworked and seeing things. After all, working two jobs a day was exhausting enough, and he still had to go home and do his husbandly duties. He really had to take care of himself, especially so soon after getting married! Then again, they'd been married for two years and were still so lovey-dovey. He really was a devoted good man, which made it all the more important that he look after himself.
Of course, there were also some more superstitious people, or people with more experience, who thought this might be a sign of awakening. Who would've thought Mr. Kelvin, with his thick eyebrows and honest-looking eyes, was a latent psionic, and so on!
And so, in just two or three weeks, all kinds of distorted rumors began to spread like wildfire. The story of the transparent factory-eating ghost would probably soon become New Jade Gate's most famous ghost story.
By then, Kelvin, at the center of the tale, couldn't laugh at all. Not everyone was a born performer; most people were just simple, hardworking folk!
So, in the dead of night, the cowboy sometimes wondered whether he really had seen things. But if he had, there was still no way to explain the strange things happening at the factory.
People really did have to stand firm in their convictions! Kelvin made up his mind.
Even so, he didn't want to become the laughingstock of the Alliance
