"You'd better fasten your coat," he added. "The wind will be strong in a moment."

"You've been driving the whole way. Why don't I take over this time?" Kelvin suggested cautiously. Partly, he was genuinely worried about the engineer's stamina. But he also couldn't help thinking that anyone who tried to drive a motorcycle and shoot at the same time was bound to end up in a ditch.

"Don't worry. I'm quite confident in my stamina," Summers said. "Focus on giving directions, and keep an eye on what's behind us."

The cowboy hurriedly wrapped both arms around his gun and nodded repeatedly, thinking he had better prove useful.

It didn't take long, however, for him to realize that he might have spoken too soon. The moment Summers climbed onto the hover motorcycle, he seemed to let loose completely, turning a machine that had been wandering across the open wilderness into something with all the presence of a starship.
