Yaxiu crouched by the wall, cautiously watching from the shadows as the blue light in the other person's eyes flickered on and off.
The robot calling itself Summers aimed the ion cannons mounted on its two arms at the people in opposite corners of the hall, yet spoke in a gentle, reassuring tone. "If you surrender now, you can still hope for lenient treatment. We and the Alliance are friendly neighbors and allies, after all. And given your special status, neither of you will be harmed."
The ranger's lips twitched. He was clearly tempted.
To be honest, the moment that robot had blasted through his force-field shield with an ion cannon, he'd already been wondering how he could surrender with dignity.
But the reporter said, "My status is special, but yours isn't. Mr. Yaxiu, you're just a ranger and a private security guard. You have no official standing."
The ranger's face stiffened again, as if someone had pasted a layer of glue over it.
Summers added, "As I understand it, you're friends with Commander Yu Lian. Even if only out of regard for him, you won't be harmed. But, Mr. Yaxiu Stein, if you keep resisting, how long do you think your friendship will last?"
The ranger nodded without thinking.
"When did you become his friend? At most, he hired you during the last operation in Tulong," the reporter said. "That Chosen champion isn't exactly a saint. During the Tulong incident, he shot and killed several of our citizens without a second thought! You were there, weren't you?"
Could you two at least get your stories straight before you kept fighting? The ranger nearly wanted to leave in tears.
But at this point, he had nowhere to run, even if he wanted to. Clear footsteps sounded again from the entrance.
