Yu Lian greeted Black Hero and headed toward the landing craft.
This kind of landing craft was a specialized weapon. Its hull was conical, and it was incredibly fast. Combined with the disintegration field generator in its prow, it had tremendous penetrating power, making it the equivalent of a javelin in space warfare.
The problem was that its hull had to be small to evade incoming fire, while the powerful engine and disintegration field generator took up most of the available space. As a result, there was very little room left over—enough for, at most, a squad of soldiers and their mechs.
In decisive fleet battles, this weapon was meant to make a desperate dash for the enemy bridge. But as it turned out, weapons supposedly reserved for extreme situations often weren't much use when the extreme situation actually came.
Still, it had to be admitted that this specialized assault craft was actually quite suitable for their purpose. Its hangar was small, but there was no problem fitting Yu Lian, his two companions, and all the special equipment they needed inside.
What's more, under Yu Lian's leadership, the engineers had gone ahead and jury-rigged a set of Lightwing equipment onto the assault craft—and Little Gray had lent a little help behind the scenes, too.
Once the Lightwing equipment was activated, the assault craft's lifespan could be measured in minutes. But no one had expected to recover the thing for reuse anyway.
"It's running very well." The chief technician—the senior warrant officer whose name Yu Lian still didn't know—had already spotted the captain and hurried over. "I've also stowed your heraldic mech and all its weapons, and installed a charging unit. As long as the ship isn't completely destroyed, you can even use the hull to recharge in a pinch."
