Yu Lian narrowed his eyes and took another careful look. The arrow really was pointing at the statue's knee.
"How do I activate it?" he asked.
"Knock three times with a fist carrying a psionic vibration. That's how most starship main controls are activated. Of course, if there's another password, we'll have to crack it on the spot."
"Then why the knee?"
"I think it was to commemorate an ancient custom? Something about men setting out on long voyages by sea offering their knees to their families. Well, it was so long ago that even my database is missing a few details." At last, a note of exasperation crept into Little Gray's voice. "But once it's open, I should be able to find a way in."
Yu Lian thought it over, then had Dawn, his wife in his previous life, float up into the air to keep watch. He gripped Radiance, his wife in this life, tightly and made his way toward the colossal figure.
When he reached the foot of the statue, he looked up and studied its features. Only then could he tell that it was probably a statue of a woman. But its features and expression were so solemn, so full of lofty divinity, that it had no sex appeal whatsoever.
Without hesitation, Yu Lian reached out and placed his hand on the figure's knee. He wrapped his fist in a psionic vibration and knocked three times. The surface felt cold beneath his hand, like stone that had slept for countless ages, yet it also seemed to possess a faint, mysterious elasticity.
Immediately afterward, dazzling points of light appeared on the raised chest of the colossus. They projected onto the floor, forming five translucent windows covered in dense characters and diagrams.
That must mean it worked, right?
