Major General Watt Larr really was a good guy to have around, and he genuinely had Yu Lian's best interests at heart. But he knew perfectly well that the tide of events was unstoppable, and no matter how much he worried, there was no escaping the helplessness of being swept along with it. Seeing that Yu Lian himself didn't seem too bothered, he could only sigh and turn his attention to his own duties.
As it happened, although he'd never commanded a combat unit or served on a staff before, he'd come from a background in military theory and overseas intelligence. That had given him a habit of attending to every last detail, and even made him a bit of a fussy, meddlesome housekeeper. Yet someone like him actually made a pretty good pair with Lieutenant General Sayue, a commander who liked to claim he was the handsomest young man for miles around.
"Larr may not look like the sort who belongs on a battlefield, but he sure knows how to get things done! Young man, you've got a good eye." Lieutenant General Sayue was very pleased with Yu Lian's recommendation. With an assistant like this, he said, he could escape the headache-inducing daily grind and devote all his attention to studying the situation at the front.
"I've read the battle reports on the campaign to take Devil's Throat A1. Who fights a battle like that? Either you advance steadily, or you bring the full force of heaven and earth down on them! This half-hearted approach makes things miserable for the commander, and leaves the troops at a loss, too. With the fleet supporting us, we can tear through the Marauders' defenses with our teeth if we have to. We may not be able to take that fortress for now,
