"The, the forward area is showing a new mass reaction. I-it's a Dreadnought!" The ever-diligent officer at his post made the announcement. Of course, perhaps because he was so dedicated, he was also the first to be startled.
In reality, though, given the distance, there was no need for him to warn anyone. Before he could finish his report, an ugly yet towering warship, like a monstrous troll, had already emerged from inside the dwarf planet.
The dwarf planet had clearly been hollowed out, making room for a massive warship to hide within it.
The crew of the Blizzard soon recognized it as a Dreadnought-class fire ship. It had taken part in the outpost battle a week ago, and had even traded blows with the Dawn Angel and the Barbarossa.
Of course, after going head-to-head with a Titan ship, it was in pretty poor shape. Its outer armor was battered and scarred. But we all knew that Marauder ships had a strong greenskin aesthetic, ugly as trolls drifting through space, and a battered troll looked even more intimidating.
Before her, a mere heavy cruiser was as insignificant as a goblin before a troll.
One after another, several more high-mass reactions appeared nearby. There was a large carrier, two fire ships, and over a dozen medium warships of various sizes.
Clearly, that wasn't the only asteroid hollowed out to hide warships. Sobek could even tell that several of them must have had fortress guns and central command centers installed inside.
The bad news was that every warship appearing in the asteroid belt dwarfed the Blizzard. The good news was that all of the Marauders' forces in this system should have appeared by now.
They had all been forced to reveal themselves early by the Blizzard's reckless charge.
