In fact, even before she made her move, while she was still muttering away and beginning to recite her opening lines, the Draconic inspector had apparently sensed something was wrong. A layer of psionic armor had already glimmered into being around him. He gripped the bow with both hands and wrenched it apart, transforming its curved back into a straight rod. One-meter-long energy blades extended from both ends—he'd equipped either end of his bow with a lightsaber.

Just like that, the inspector had a bizarre double-ended lightsaber in his hands. He didn't even bother with a special technique. The instant he turned his bow into a sword, he used the torque of his waist to swing it at the "Lady of the Present's" neck.

The move itself was simple, but its smooth, uninterrupted flow was no easy feat. It had a certain unrestrained, effortless grace to it. That alone was enough to show that Inspector Stoneheart was quite accomplished with a sword.

As expected, every archer had a heart that longed for close combat.

The Draconic inspector had done all of this in half a second. During that time, the lady had stood perfectly still, continuing to recite her opening lines at her leisurely pace as she slowly reached out a hand.

The Draconic inspector had clearly made the first move, but faced with such a casual gesture, he couldn't mount any effective defense.
