The glowing orb above the Wang Family Continent never stopped shining. But in the sky, things large enough to block its light moved from time to time, their pace extremely slow. Every so often, they would darken an area of the continent by blotting out the light. That was night on the Wang Family Continent.
Food God sat alone beside the stone table, gazing at the sky. He neither drank wine nor tea. He simply sat there.
Lu Yin walked over. "What are you thinking about, senior?"
Food God's voice was bleak. "I watched for a lifetime and guarded it for a lifetime. In the end, I still couldn't protect it."
"You did everything you could, senior," Lu Yin said.
Food God looked at Lu Yin. "I owe you an apology. I was the one who invited you to the academy, and not only did I expose your identity, I also dragged you into this predicament."
Lu Yin chuckled. "Senior Food God, you don't seem like the sentimental type. There's always gain or loss. Since we can't change the tide, we might as well go with it."
Food God exhaled. "If I could, I really wouldn't want the Four Sides Heavenly Balance to take over the academy entirely. But as things stand, this is the best outcome. The academy can no longer protect itself, so we might as well use the time the Four Sides Heavenly Balance spends winning over the students to help them obtain more resources. That way, their cultivation will go more smoothly in the future. As for whom they serve, it doesn't matter. They'll have to fight and die for humanity on the Backside Battlefield eventually."
Lu Yin asked, "Given your abilities, senior, you should be able to protect the academy, at least to some extent.
