Lu Yin had thought Qiong Shanhai wanted to talk with him about what had happened over the past few days. He had indeed kicked up quite a stir.
But when Lu Yin saw a corpse inside the City Lord's Mansion, his expression darkened and his gaze turned icy.
Guici was dead.
Since arriving in Ten Thousand Cities, Yan Yan had stayed by Lu Yin's side, while Guici had secretly gathered information and had barely shown himself.
As a Hunting Realm assassin with a remarkable innate ability, Guici had been so difficult to track that even Lu Yin had needed Rune Dao Numbers to find him. Yet now his corpse lay right before Lu Yin.
"Who did this?" Lu Yin asked in a low voice, looking at Qiong Shanhai.
Qiong Shanhai shook his head. "I don't know. When he was found, he was already like this."
"Where?"
"In an alley outside Qionglin."
Lu Yin's first thought was Hugh Phineas. If anyone could kill Guici easily without causing much of a disturbance, it would have to be an Enlightenment Realm expert.
But he quickly dismissed the idea. Hugh Phineas had never even seen Guici, so he had no reason to target him. Besides, even if he had, he couldn't have done it without making a sound. The Dark Phoenix Clan's methods were too conspicuous. And Guici was a veteran assassin; if he had been killed without a sound, there was a ninety percent chance he'd been ambushed.
Unless Hugh Phineas had the skill to ambush an assassin and knew Guici was working for Lu Yin. That possibility was far too slim.
"How did you know he was one of my people, City Lord?" Lu Yin asked curiously.
Qiong Shanhai took out a token bearing the insignia of an Imperial Court Second Team
