The police were charged with upholding national security and social order, and protecting the lives and property of the people, in accordance with the laws of the land.
They were "common sense," "justice," and "order." As guardians of order, they were even more representative than the military.
And what about me?
I was a "madman," a "murderer," and "chaos."
I could barely take universal moral and legal standards to heart. To me, human life was no different from the life of a crawling insect. No matter how outrageous an act was, it barely merited my attention. Things others found incomprehensible or dangerous were as ordinary as could be to me.
It had nothing to do with being an edgy teenager or being mentally ill. I had simply "become this way." My true nature had been laid bare, I'd been steeped in a bloody life, my outlook had changed, and there had been all sorts of other factors.

I'd come to my senses. Yes, it was time I came to my senses.
