Ria came to see Lynn again, and only then did he realize that she was the type to calm down after a while.
It wasn't until he read God of Love's book and reviewed the scene where he'd analyzed Lilim's mood by watching her tail that he understood.
Lynn finally confirmed that he'd been on the verge of getting through to them, only to say something outrageous at the crucial moment and make the heroines stop talking to him.
When something similar happened with Lilim, her tail gave away her feelings, so Lynn could accurately judge her mood. That let him be firm in his approach and still tease her while she was hissing at him, testing the waters bit by bit with all sorts of curious things: patting her head, touching her tail and ears, and spanking her.
Only then did he gradually grow bolder.
But humans didn't have that tell!
If he tried to get close to them, Lynn had no way of knowing how they felt.
According to history, there had once been a witch and a founding emperor. When the emperor was young, he met the witch, and the two traveled together. The young man journeyed far and wide, then rebelled and became emperor.
When he reached middle age, the witch and the emperor had a falling-out.
The witch went decades without speaking to him.
The emperor even died.
And then the witch spent a thousand years searching for a resurrection spell, followed by another thousand years searching for his soul. Lynn had no idea whether she ever found it.
Pretty ridiculous, right?
Lynn didn't really care now, but she had work to do at the church. It was so far south that calling her over would waste time and interfere with the work going on
