The Demon Tiger Clan Third Elder headed toward a nearby street, while the other three Demon Tiger Clan elites, apart from Hu Li, hid themselves.
Once the Demon Tiger Clan Third Elder had disappeared down the street, Hu Li hurried over to What Are You Looking At Small Shop and shouted, "Divine Doctor Xu, please save my uncle!"
A cold look appeared on his face. As long as Xu Yan went with him, the other three would seize the chance to capture Su Jiuer.
He thought about the flawless plan and felt it was perfect. As expected, it was devised by the cleverest Third Elder in our clan.
Xu Yan had only just finished eating roast chicken. Hearing Hu Li's voice, he went outside and looked at the tall man in black. "What's the matter? Has your uncle run into some danger?"
He found it a little strange. This man wanted him to save his uncle, but there was no tension, worry, or sadness on his face. If anything, he seemed a little excited.
"My uncle suddenly fainted on that street. Divine Doctor Xu, please come with me and take a look at him right away." Hu Li put on a sorrowful expression, pointed toward the street where the Demon Tiger Clan Third Elder was, and spoke.
Inside, he could hardly wait. He even wanted to shout with joy. If he completed this mission, he would be rewarded when he returned to the clan.
Lin Yansheng looked toward the street, puzzled. "Aren't there two pharmacies on that street? Why didn't you take your uncle to one of them? Why come all the way here to call me?"
Strange. It was all too strange.
Hu Li froze, not expecting there to be pharmacies on that street. How would he know? He was flustered now, with no idea what to say.
Suddenly, inspiration struck. "The doctors at those pharmacies are all quacks. How could they compare to you, Divine Doctor Xu? Only you can cure my uncle's condition!"
"What exactly is your uncle's condition?" Xu Yan asked.
He felt that this man wasn't telling the truth. Could he be trying to let his uncle die on purpose so he could fight over the family fortune or something?
"My uncle collapsed and won't get up. I can't even pull him to his feet. Divine Doctor Xu, please hurry and come with me. I'm afraid it'll be too late to save him if we wait." Hu Li sounded anxious.
He really was getting anxious. Dragging this out any longer wouldn't be good. They had entered Tianren City in secret, hiding their identities; they couldn't stay out on the street too long, much less in plain sight.
"All right. Wait a moment," Xu Yan said.
Whether or not this man wanted to let his uncle die, he had come to ask for help, so Xu Yan still needed to go take a look.
When Hu Li saw Xu Yan head back into the shop, he was overjoyed, guessing that Xu Yan had gone to fetch his medical tools.
Once Xu Yan came out and went with him, the others would seize their chance, and the mission would be completed perfectly.
Xu Yan went inside, scooped Su Jiuer up in his arms, and said, "Someone outside says his uncle collapsed and wants me to take a look. You're coming with me."
Then he carried Su Jiuer out of the shop, gently shut the door, and said to Hu Li, "Let's go."
Cradled in Xu Yan's arms, Su Jiuer stared intently at Hu Li. She recognized him as a member of the Demon Tiger Clan. He had definitely come to capture her.
The Demon Tiger Clan had chased her relentlessly all the way here, forcing her to flee into Tianren City. She hadn't expected them to still be after her—or to have followed her into the city.
Hu Li was completely dumbfounded. He had never imagined Xu Yan would bring Su Jiuer out with him.
That meant the Third Elder's ruse of luring Xu Yan away had failed, and the three Demon Tiger Clan elites lying in wait nearby would be of no use.
"What's wrong? Weren't you in a hurry?" Seeing Hu Li stare at Su Jiuer in his arms without replying, Lin Yansheng held her a little tighter and asked.
He thought this fellow might be trying to let his uncle die, then seize the family fortune and money or something.
He couldn't believe he'd actually run into such a melodramatic story. What a coincidence.
Hearing Lin Yansheng's question, Hu Li replied awkwardly, "Well, my uncle isn't seriously ill after all. There's no need for you to come, Divine Doctor Xu. I'll take him to a pharmacy on that street myself."
With that, he hurried away in a panic.
The Demon Tiger Clan Third Elder hadn't told him this might happen. He had no idea how to handle it.
Xu Yan watched Hu Li hurry off and said, "These days, even family ties have grown so cold when money and inheritance are involved. He couldn't even be bothered to keep acting—he just gave up on his uncle's life."
Then he turned and went back into the shop.
Su Jiuer let out a sigh of relief. She was certain the Demon Tiger Clan had been lying. Their goal had to be capturing her.
But with Xu Yan there, they hadn't dared make a move, so they had temporarily given up.
"Little Fox, do you have any family?" Xu Yan sat in a chair inside the shop, looking at Su Jiuer on the table as he asked.
After seeing that fellow who wanted to take his uncle's money, he had found himself missing his own family.
Seeing the sadness on Xu Yan's face, Su Jiuer thought that the family of this old monster, Xu Yan, must have passed away long ago.
She hadn't expected that Xu Yan would still miss his family. She had assumed that someone who had reached his level had long since severed all seven emotions and six desires, and no longer felt the emotions of ordinary living beings.
Now it seemed the rumors couldn't be trusted. Even an old monster like Xu Yan missed his family. That meant reaching a high level of cultivation didn't require severing one's seven emotions and six desires.
But speaking of family made Su Jiuer miss hers, too.
She was a princess of the Sky Fox Clan, the clan leader's only daughter.
Unfortunately, the Great Elder's faction in the Sky Fox Clan had conspired with the Demon Tiger Clan to launch a sneak attack on the clan leader's faction. With enemies striking from within and without, they had nearly wiped out the clan leader's entire line.
Her father had been gravely wounded while helping her break through the encirclement. In the end, he had stayed behind alone to hold off their pursuers, buying her precious time to escape.
"Little Fox, have you lost your family too?" Xu Yan asked, seeing Su Jiuer lying on the table, listless.
He could sense the sadness in the little fox. It was a strange feeling.
She was clearly only a fox, yet she seemed to feel emotions almost the same as his.
Xu Yan reached out to Su Jiuer and gently stroked her head and back. In a tender voice, he said, "Since we're both wanderers at the ends of the earth, and fate brought us together like this, we'll be family from now on."
Su Jiuer heard Xu Yan's words and raised her head slightly to look at him. A faint warmth stirred in her heart.
Human cultivators and the Demon Race had always been enemies, often slaughtering one another. And yet Xu Yan was willing to make her family.
For a moment, she felt as if a grain of sand had gotten into her eye.
"Hey, Little Fox, are you crying?" Xu Yan noticed the tears in Su Jiuer's eyes and was deeply surprised.
He had never paid attention to other animals crying before. But now, a fox was crying right before his eyes.
