After Yue Lin finished speaking, he left with his hands behind his back, leaving Su Yuan sitting alone in his seat, completely bewildered.
Why did it feel like Teacher Yue had misunderstood something?
No matter how wild Su Yuan's imagination got, he would never have guessed that he'd been mistaken for a potential mental patient.
He shook his head and set his doubts aside for now. Teacher Yue must have had his reasons for saying that.
After a brief break between classes, they had General Knowledge Class and Spirit Script next.
The material taught in General Knowledge Class was similar to what he'd studied in high school in his previous life.
Although the coursework was fairly demanding, most of it had nothing to do with cultivation, so the high school students who were cultivators found it pretty easy.
In his previous life, Su Yuan had been a small-town exam machine, and he'd gotten good grades in subjects like General Knowledge and Spirit Script that relied on rote memorization.
Now, with the Pure Devil Heart bolstering him, he had room to improve in both subjects once again.
Before he knew it, a whole morning of classes had passed. It was now 12:10 p.m., and in five minutes, their one-hour lunch break would begin.
That also meant a fierce battle over the dining hall was about to erupt.
Su Yuan glanced over his classmates. Every one of them would be a rival in the coming contest!
Qi Cultivators still couldn't fly freely, and flying swords weren't allowed on campus, adding all sorts of uncertainties to the battle.
As Su Yuan watched his classmates, they were watching their surroundings too. Every now and then, his eyes met theirs, and it was as if sparks flew between them, filling the air with tension.
"Su Yuan."
Chu Lanxi flipped his hand, producing a gleaming white meal card, and said,
"Whether I get to eat lunch early today depends on you."
Su Yuan accepted the meal card solemnly, as if he'd just taken command of an army.
There was no need to make a solemn vow.
His cultivation was only above average at school. Though delivering takeout had given him plenty of experience weaving through crowds and dodging pursuers, he still couldn't guarantee that he'd be among the first hundred to reach the cafeteria.
And the cafeteria's limited-edition dishes had always been first come, first served.
"But I'm not the same as I used to be."
Su Yuan's gaze fell on a broom in the corner of the classroom. He thought to himself,
"As someone who cultivates both takeout delivery and security work, I can still dodge the competition's encirclement like before, but now I can go on the offensive too! Maybe I can break into the top ten to reach the cafeteria."
Time ticked by, one second at a time.
Five minutes later, the bell rang. Their homeroom teacher, Yue Lin, who never kept them past the bell, said,
"Try not to knock down the windows or the walls. Class dismissed."
In the next instant, the students of Class Two, who'd been building up to this for ages, shot through the windows—quietly opened at some point—like leopards leaping after prey.
A gust of wind howled, sending the classroom curtains flapping wildly.
Su Yuan reached out and drew the broom over from the corner, then charged through the window with the others.
Class Three, Year Twelve was on the sixth floor. When Su Yuan jumped out the window, he saw students from across the school raining down from the teaching buildings, all heading for the cafeteria!
Su Yuan circulated his spiritual energy and glided through the air for a while before landing easily. Quite a few students were already ahead of him, moving like lightning.
There was no helping it. The higher your cultivation, the faster you ran.
In the past, Su Yuan had no way to deal with these stat monsters.
But now...
Take this, my flying fork—no, broom strike!
As if hurling a weapon across the universe, Su Yuan flung the broom in his hand. It streaked forward like a swimming dragon and slammed into the back of a student ahead.
A gentle force that didn't hurt surged out of the broom, pushing the student straight into another student off to the side. The two collided hard and tumbled to the ground like overturned gourds.
Good, that took care of two rivals.
Su Yuan raced forward and caught the broom while it was still in the air, then charged on.
The victors feasted; the losers ate dust!
That was how the battle for the cafeteria had always gone!
In a society where everyone cultivated, using force within reason was perfectly acceptable. Even the school administration was all for it.
Su Yuan's eyes flickered as he set his sights on another student not far ahead.
But before he could make a move, the student seemed to sense him and turned around, charging straight at him. Spiritual energy surged in his palm; he was clearly planning to block Su Yuan.
Su Yuan gave him a casual glance. An ordinary student was no match for a veteran deliveryman who'd seen his share of battles! Even the strongest fighters in the takeout world couldn't dodge his fork, let alone a student.
Watch me swing six sticks in one second!
The broom shot from Su Yuan's hands. Its blows stirred up waves of sinister wind, and in almost the same instant, six strikes landed on the numb spots along the other student's arms, behind both knees, and across his waist and abdomen.
Thump—
The bystander student's limbs went numb and began twitching uncontrollably. He collapsed to the ground.
Su Yuan didn't even look back as he continued charging toward the cafeteria. He couldn't help feeling surprised by the power of the Eighteen Divine Fork Styles.
This fork technique was the foundation of the security trade: it stopped people without hurting them. Its level seemed to be a cut above the popular martial arts taught to high schoolers.
So the system really had randomly chosen the right skill to upgrade to mastery.
At least it couldn't have been better suited to the battle for the cafeteria.
From then on, with this fork technique, Su Yuan surged ahead, leaving one rival after another behind. A place in the cafeteria's top ten was within reach!
At the cafeteria entrance stood a middle-aged man as tall as an iron tower, wearing a dark red tracksuit with his arms folded across his chest. His face looked stern.
He was Zhuge Tie, the head of the Physical Education Department at Taihua High School. He was in charge of physical education for all the Year Twelve students, and a celebrated gold-medal PE teacher at the school.
"By my estimate, the Year Twelve students should be arriving soon. The first few to reach the cafeteria are probably promising sprinters."
Zhuge Tie gauged the time and thought to himself.
As a PE teacher, he knew exactly what his students were capable of, but there might still be a hidden gem who'd gone undiscovered.
Before long, the sound of footsteps came from the distance. Zhuge Tie's eyes sharpened, and anticipation rose in his heart.
The school's promising sprinters had arrived.
At the far end of his field of vision, several Year Twelve students raced toward the cafeteria. They were the very students who usually did well in sprints and had earned his praise.
Zhuge Tie was pleased, but just then, he noticed that his favorite students seemed strangely flustered.
It was as if some flood or ferocious beast were chasing them.
He was still wondering what was going on when, the next second, a stick suddenly sliced through the air with a piercing whistle and struck one student behind the knee.
The student grunted and fell forward.
The flying stick rebounded and landed in the hands of a young man who came charging around the corner.
A cold gleam shone in the young man's eyes as he stared at the students fleeing ahead of him, like a ravenous tiger pouncing on its prey!
Then, as Zhuge Tie watched in astonishment, the young man's stick blurred through the air. He swung it six times in a second—or even faster—and swept away all of Zhuge Tie's favorite students before stepping through the cafeteria doors as the first to arrive.
