After a moment's hesitation, Nanase nodded.
"I was thinking about Yagami."
Yagami, huh? It seemed his death had affected her after all.
"Were you close to him?"
"No, we hardly ever spoke," Nanase said, shaking her head. "But an outstanding student like Yagami must have had a lot of people who were saddened by his death—his parents, his friends."
Kamio Tatsuya simply listened. After all, he was the one who had taken Yagami out, so he didn't want to bring him up.
Still, given the personality Yagami had shown, there might have been friends who felt sad about what happened to him. As for his parents, though, it was hard to say whether they were even sad about his death.
After all, parents who could send their child to a place like the White Room for fifteen or sixteen years were hard to read.
Speaking of which, Kamio Tatsuya thought of Amanawa Ichika. She'd left the school a few months ago, and he had no idea how she was doing.
She was a poor soul. No, it wasn't just her—the children in the White Room were mostly pitiful. Ayanokoji's father was a real piece of work.
"Life is full of uncertainty. You can never know whether tomorrow or an accident will come first." Kamio Tatsuya shook his head and spoke with feigned solemnity. "So cherish the present."
With that, Kamio Tatsuya patted Nanase on the shoulder and left to return to his room and rest.
The next day, after eating the buffet provided aboard the ship, Kamio Tatsuya ran into Kanzaki from Class B. A girl was with him.
He thought her name was Himeko. She wore her hair in twin tails and had a bratty little-girl sort of look.
"Could I talk to you?"
"Of course. Let's find somewhere
