Chapter 14: Distributing Immortal Herbs (Please Bookmark and Vote)
After a friendly, candid exchange, Dugu Bo and Shen Hanyu's relationship had clearly grown much closer. The way Dugu Bo looked at Shen Hanyu no longer carried the air of an elder regarding a junior; somehow, it had gained the attitude of one friend looking upon another who truly understood him.
In life, true confidants were the hardest to find.
Dugu Bo was no longer young, so he naturally understood this principle very well.
Shen Hanyu noticed it as well, but it was a good thing, so he had no reason to stop it. As his cultivation grew stronger, he would truly need a powerful helper to handle certain matters when necessary.
Take his fifth Soul Ring, for example. This hunt would require a Soul Beast between forty thousand and fifty-five thousand years old at the very least, and its quality had to be exceptionally high. Even some Titled Douluo would not readily provoke such a Soul Beast. As a Quasi-Soul King, he naturally lacked confidence.
But having a Titled Douluo as a helper was entirely different. At the very least, it would make things much easier.
This could not really be called using Dugu Bo. They were simply taking what they each needed.
But if one truly had to use the word "use," then all under heaven bustled for profit and scattered for profit. It was a relatively fair exchange of interests, with no right or wrong involved.
The two casually chatted for a few more moments before Dugu Bo said with a touch of emotion, "I never expected that one of the few people in this world who understood this old man so well would be a thirteen-year-old boy. I suppose it truly is fate. Kid, from the very beginning, your goal was the pool behind me and the medicinal herbs around it. This old man wasn't wrong, was he?"
Shen Hanyu answered honestly, "Senior Dugu is correct. This junior came for those very things."
Dugu Bo laughed twice. He did not particularly care about the answer, merely asking out of curiosity, "Could you explain what this pool and these medicinal herbs, unheard of in the outside world, actually do? For even a genius like you to be so moved by them, they must be extraordinary."
Shen Hanyu smiled, then slowly walked to within ten meters of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. At once, he felt a strange energy surge into his body, while the primordial energy of heaven and earth around him was so dense it seemed solidified.
"Senior Dugu, every medicinal herb here has its own use. Some possess extreme properties, while others are exceptionally neutral and gentle. Their methods of use differ, but there is no denying that nearly every herb here can create a powerhouse at the level of a Titled Douluo. Rather than calling them medicinal herbs, it would be better to call them... immortal herbs!"
Dugu Bo slowly approached, his expression filled with solemn shock as he murmured, "There are actually medicinal herbs in this world with such effects. Seeing it once truly surpasses hearing of it a hundred times. But how did you learn of these things?"
Shen Hanyu gave a faint smile. Then, he plucked an elegant immortal herb from the grass beside him, one that resembled a beauty's pale skin and jade-like bones, and casually tossed it to Dugu Bo. "How could I know so much? It is simply fate. I cannot explain the specific reason either. Senior Dugu, you only need to know this: I, Shen Hanyu, never cheat my friends."
Dugu Bo caught the Water Immortal Jade Bone and chuckled as he curiously examined the immortal herb in his hand. He did not press the matter further, merely asking, "What is this?"
As Shen Hanyu slowly searched for other immortal herbs, he explained, "Water Immortal Jade Bone, one of the neutral immortal herbs. It nourishes the tendons and strengthens the bones, allows qi to flow through the seven channels and eight meridians, consolidates one's foundation and cultivates one's origin, increases cultivation speed, and grants a tremendous boost in Soul Power. It has absolutely no side effects. It can also cleanse impurities from a Martial Soul and improve its quality."
"It is very suitable for your Granddaughter. Save it for her."
Dugu Bo revealed a shocked expression. Then he solemnly took out a jade box and placed the Water Immortal Jade Bone inside.
Before long, Shen Hanyu had gathered nearly all the immortal herbs that could be harvested on the spot. He then handed Dugu Bo three jade boxes.
"Senior Dugu, the first jade box contains a Dragon Blood Grass. Ordinary Dragon Blood Grass can only be considered top-grade medicinal material, but the Dragon Blood Grass here is exceptionally extraordinary due to this location and has already entered the ranks of immortal herbs. Leave it for your Granddaughter as well. It may not transform her into a dragon, but it can at least evolve her Martial Soul into a Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor like yours."
"The second jade box contains one for you, called the Aromatic Silk Beauty. Though it cannot be consumed, its fragrance can neutralize and suppress all poisons. Carry it with you, and it can help suppress the toxins within your body until you successfully condense a Poison Pill."
"The immortal herb in the third jade box is called Nine-Rank Purple Ganoderma. It is the finest among ganoderma, with effects that consolidate the foundation, cultivate one's origin, replenish qi, and increase one's cultivation. Though it is not an immortal herb, its effects are not inferior to one in the slightest. Keep it for yourself and consume it. It can raise you to at least a rank ninety-three Titled Douluo."
"As for the immortal herb in the fourth jade box... it is called the Blood Swan Kiss. Its effect is to amplify the toxins on any part it comes into contact with by at least a hundredfold. This is also the catalyst you will need when the time comes to condense your Poison Pill. Its usefulness to you is no less than that of three immortal herbs. Do not open it casually, or the consequences... well, you understand..."
Dugu Bo carefully put away all the jade boxes, then looked at Shen Hanyu and said seriously, "My young friend, thank you."
Shen Hanyu shook his head. "Senior Dugu, there is no need to thank me. I also took many immortal herbs, so I have made a killing. Besides, I merely gave you all those suitable for you. At the end of the day, this is still your territory for now. I took your things, so I should be the one thanking you."
He was not trying to flatter Dugu Bo. It was simply friends helping one another. Since he had taken someone else's belongings, he should at least show some appreciation. Otherwise, his conscience would not allow it.
After all, in the original work, Tang San had at least helped Dugu Bo suppress his toxins. Although the final outcome had not been very good, he had at least repaid him in some way, even if it was not entirely positive.
Dugu Bo laughed heartily. "This old man has merely been guarding this vegetable garden for nothing. Trading a garden whose uses I do not even know for the friendship of a peerless genius is not a losing deal. I only hope that, a hundred years from now, you can look after Yanyan and her descendants. Then this old man will ask for nothing more."
Shen Hanyu solemnly clasped his hands in salute. "Please rest assured. I guarantee that I will do so."
Dugu Bo nodded. Looking at the bare vegetable garden, he suddenly felt strangely sentimental. After a long while, he said, "For someone as outstanding as you, if Yanyan did not already have someone she loved, this old man would truly want to entrust her to you. What a pity... what a pity..."
Shen Hanyu frowned, then silently calculated their ages. When Dugu Yan first appeared, Shui Bing'er had been around sixteen. Ayu was two years older than Shui Bing'er, and he himself was four years older than Ayu. That meant Dugu Yan was at least his age, perhaps one or two years older or younger.
At this age, dating was not particularly uncommon. It was even quite ordinary on Love Continent.
It was just a pity that such a great beauty as Dugu Yan had gone to waste on that stupid lightning-shooting dragon, Yu Tianheng...
