Shen Hanyu had been busy absorbing the Soul Ring these past few days and had yet to wake up. Taking advantage of the time, Tian Meng had taken a brief nap. By the time he woke, Shen Hanyu's absorption had entered its final stage.
As wave after wave of terrifying energy swept outward, Tian Meng rubbed his bleary eyes and said in surprise:
"It's actually two days faster than I expected. Hanyu really is a freak. My eye for people is amazing. If I'd picked a Soul Master with only two or three innate levels, wouldn't I have been worked to death? Better to stick with Hanyu and win while lying down..."
A faint layer of blood-red light covered Shen Hanyu's body. Five Soul Rings—yellow, purple, purple, black, and black—had appeared around him, violently pulsing up and down as though they had seen something terrifying.
As a blood-red Soul Ring slowly appeared in the position of his sixth Soul Ring, the other five were forcefully suppressed and returned to their former stillness.
At that moment, Shen Hanyu abruptly opened his eyes. The terrifying energy fluctuations rapidly withdrew into his body, replaced by an aura of extreme cold that burst from him, freezing much of the surrounding seawater.
"Hanyu, you succeeded! Hahahaha! My choice was absolutely correct. At this rate, Bing Bing and I will be together forever in less than two years. Baby Hanyu, come let me kiss you, hehehe..."
Shen Hanyu nearly got goosebumps from that. His urge to properly experience the power of Extreme Ice vanished, replaced by deep helplessness.
Guys, what should I do if my good companion turns out to be a simp? Should I silence him permanently...?
"Ahem, Tian Meng, watch your manners. Otherwise, I'll think you crawled out of some backwater Soul Hall..."
"Huh? Soul Hall? What kind of faction is that? Is it human or Soul Beast? How come I've never even heard of it in all these hundreds of thousands of years...?"
Tian Meng's strange laughter came to an abrupt halt, and he asked curiously.
"Well, let's not talk about that for now. I'll tell you when I get the chance."
Shen Hanyu laughed it off and brushed the matter aside before saying seriously:
"Tian Meng, thank you. Without you, I wouldn't have been able to absorb a Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring so easily. Great kindness needs no words—brother, I'll thank you properly next time!"
Tian Meng froze, as if he had not processed it. He gave a dazed acknowledgment, then seemed to crash completely and did not speak again.
Holding back his laughter, Shen Hanyu stripped a blood-red Right Leg Bone crusted with ice shards from the Fallen Sea Demon's body. Then, carrying Tian Meng's unknown-age remains with him, he swiftly reentered the seawater and swam toward the surface.
After coming to his senses, Tian Meng kept pestering Shen Hanyu in the Sea of Consciousness. Shen Hanyu found it both amusing and helpless, so he could only patiently soothe him.
After all, one had to take responsibility for one's own sins. It was like getting someone pregnant—either take responsibility or get extorted. Same principle either way.
The moment he set foot on land again, Shen Hanyu quickly removed his soaked clothes and took out a set of black robes from his Soul Tool to put on.
After all, if he wandered around the Far North in soaked clothes, he would not feel uncomfortable now that he possessed the Extreme Ice attribute, but his clothes would soon freeze into icy lumps. That image would be rather ridiculous...
Having been underwater for so long, the wind and snow outside felt like something from another lifetime. For a moment, Shen Hanyu actually enjoyed the fierce wind. He could not help spreading his arms and embracing the snowstorm with abandon. This entirely different state of mind marked his successful entry into the next realm of cultivation. It was as though the endless wind and snow had become his adornment, while a refreshing sense of control swept through his entire body and left him somewhat intoxicated.
After a long while, Tian Meng finally interrupted him.
"Hanyu... um... I suggest you leave this place soon. I can sense Powerful Soul Beasts nearby..."
Shen Hanyu coughed twice to hide his embarrassment, then swiftly darted toward the outskirts.
As he sped along, Shen Hanyu said with rare excitement:
"Tian Meng, we hit the jackpot this time. A Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring, a Hundred Thousand Year Right Leg Bone, and my Soul Power has directly reached level sixty-three. After absorbing the Soul Bone, I'll probably reach level sixty-five right away. In less than two years, breaking through to Soul Sage will be within reach..."
Tian Meng was equally excited. He wildly twisted his plump body in the Sea of Consciousness, then stretched lazily and comfortably.
"Hanyu, you'll be fourteen soon, right? Tsk tsk, a fourteen-year-old Soul Emperor is even more incredible than a thirteen-year-old Soul King. If you showed yourself off like this, people probably wouldn't dare believe you were a proper human. You're even more talented than that human I saw before. Oh yeah, my dream of immortality is one step closer. This is just too damn awesome..."
Shen Hanyu keenly caught the key point and asked curiously:
"That human? When was that?"
Tian Meng tilted his head and thought for a moment.
"About Thirty Thousand Years ago. That human was very strong. His Martial Soul was also an ice-attributed halberd. Though he was only in his thirties, he already possessed strength comparable to a Super Douluo. His Eighth Soul Ring was red. I heard he came to the Far North to challenge stronger opponents, but before he even encountered Snow Empress or Ice Empress, he was physically persuaded to leave by the Titan Snow Demon King..."
A trace of darkness crossed Shen Hanyu's forehead.
"What kind of persuasion? Tell me in detail."
"The Titan Snow Demon King punched him so hard he was severely injured. While he was fleeing, he woke me up. Then, while I was relocating, I happened to be discovered by other Soul Beasts. I nearly died."
Tian Meng's tone was filled with resentment, as though he were about to punch a hole straight through Shen Hanyu's Sea of Consciousness.
Shen Hanyu suppressed the corners of his mouth from rising wildly and said with faint sympathy:
"Then you really were pitiful. You almost never got to see your beloved Bing Bing again~"
Tian Meng did not suspect a thing. He gave a heavy hum, then began tossing things around in Shen Hanyu's Sea of Consciousness again, looking every bit like a resentful little wife.
Shen Hanyu glanced at him twice before completely looking away, letting Tian Meng play around as he pleased. His pace quickened, and he raced through the rocky terrain like a rocket.
By the time Shen Hanyu appeared again, he had reached the Frozen Forest on the outskirts of the Far North. The more than two hundred kilometers between them were covered in thick snow. Unable to fly, Shen Hanyu's speed had been greatly affected, and it took him nearly two days to make it out.
Once he left the region filled entirely with endless wind and snow and saw the long-missed forest, Shen Hanyu only wanted to shout that his little boat had already passed...
Ahem, wrong channel...
Anyway, bye-bye.
P.S. These past few days, I've been busy during the day earning some New Year money at my dad's company, then stealing time at night to write two chapters. The plot may feel a little stiff, but I'll try to improve it later. Thank you for your understanding and support!
