Background / History
Wang Zhi is present when Liang Yin learns that Lin Chudong has been dismissed from Da Fei Band. He later joins Lin and Liang Yin in planning a new band, initially hoping to serve as its guitarist but agreeing to change to bass if required. 4 5
After seeing Lin Chudong and Chen Jianguo’s guitar duel, Wang Zhi abandons his ambition of becoming a guitarist, judging their level far beyond his own. He commits himself to bass instead, accepting Lin’s instruction and practicing hard enough to wear blood blisters on his fingers. 17 19
His work culminates in a notable bass solo during the Liang Yin Band’s bar performance. Lin formally invites him into the band afterward. 20
As Liang Yin Media expands beyond music, Wang Zhi takes on production and administrative responsibilities. He serves as on-site producer for Drawing Sword, then becomes the company’s deputy general manager in recognition of his long service and diligence. 150 187
Personality
Wang Zhi is steady, honest, and highly diligent. Lin Chudong regards him as the most hardworking of the early musicians, with music-theory knowledge comparable to Chen Jianguo’s but less practical experience. 19
He is also excitable and comedic, especially around attractive women or when defending the dignity of bass players. His attempts to impress women regularly backfire, while his public nicknames become a recurring source of embarrassment. 14 68 176 191
Despite enjoying the authority of his deputy general manager position, he remains willing to carry out mundane tasks assigned by Lin Chudong. 210 222
