"I know who you are, of course." Ryan gave her a polite smile.
"You're every bit as good-looking as Little Leo was when he was young, and you're more muscular. Can I feel your arm?" she asked, pointing at it.
She was already trying to get handsy.
"As you can see, I'm working right now." Ryan pointed to the monitoring headphones perched over one ear.
DJs liked to wear just one earcup onstage. It wasn't because they wanted to look eccentric; monitoring headphones had two channels, and wearing one earcup made it easier to hear during the stretches between tracks.
"So, later..." She quickly rattled off a three-digit number.
"What?" Ryan said, pretending he hadn't heard.
"The room number," Paris Hilton said in a squeaky voice.
"Sorry, I'm not a guest, so I'll be working late." Ryan made up an excuse. In reality, there were six DJs at this party, including him and Joel, and they were taking turns.
"I'll be waiting for you." Paris turned and walked away.
She passed Joel, who turned to look at the shape of her backside, outlined by her figure-hugging dress.
"I snuck off to try some of the desserts here. They're really good. What did she say to you?" Joel asked.
Ryan shrugged and gave Joel a room number. "There'll be a beauty waiting for you in the room. I've already paid, so you can go straight in and enjoy yourself."
Joel shook his head. "Ryan, I know I've been a big help to you, but you really didn't have to go to all this trouble."
"So, are you going or not?"
"How could I turn you down after you went to all this trouble?" Joel grinned.
To show his gratitude, Joel took over the DJ booth, giving Ryan some time to move
