The Silver Dragon King, Guo Nian...
"By the way, do you have a name, little fellow?"
The Ice Empress looked at the little creature lying in her palm. A glimmer of curiosity appeared in her eyes.
Standing beside her, Di Tian thought for a moment, then finally remembered something.
"Even this little fellow doesn't have a name... But isn't that fellow called the Soul Beast Co-Ruler? Didn't you meet Di Tian before? Didn't he mention him to you?"
Di Tian...
At the mention of Di Tian, Guo Nian's expression turned a little solemn.
In her early years, Di Tian had once traveled to the far north, hoping to connect the Star Dou Great Forest with the lands of the north and unite the soul beasts there. He had wanted to join forces with the soul beasts of the far north, but she had rejected him.
Afterward, she and Di Tian had a brief exchange of blows. Relying on the extreme cold of the far north, she had managed to fight him to a draw.
But Di Tian had never mentioned the existence of this little Silver Dragon King.
Seeing Guo Nian fall silent, the Ice Empress seemed to understand what she was thinking. She turned and looked at Xiao Ge.
"That fellow's already entered the Spirit Academy in history. It'll be hard to get close to him now. I've just broken through the forty-thousand-year mark and survived the tribulation, so what do you think, Elder Brother? I..."
Before the Ice Empress could finish, Guo Nian interrupted her with a wave of her hand. "There's still a long time before my seventy-thousand-year tribulation. Don't rush. Our priority now is figuring out how to save that little fellow called Mo Yu."
As soon as she spoke, the Ice Empress's fangs flashed with murderous intent.
"I want to grind that damned human into dust! That despicable bastard... I hate him so much I could tear him apart! Once those human companions of his come to the far north, I'll personally kill him!"
"Kill him... I'm afraid you can't."
Guo Nian's mouth twitched.
After reading the original novel and learning about the Ice Roc's and her own fate, why wouldn't she want to slap that little human to death and put an end to their suffering?
But she couldn't do that.
"Xiao Ge has said that Mo Yu is the most talented of Ying San's disciples, and the one most likely to become a god. If we try to kill him, Ying San will definitely fly into a rage. By then, Ying San might even come after the two of us."
The Ice Empress pursed her lips. She, too, understood the consequences.
Good grief!
Mo Yu was the son of destiny, one of the people favored by the sea god, Ying San. If she killed him in a fit of anger, wouldn't she bring down the wrath of the gods?
If this were only a matter of her own grudges, the Ice Empress might not care about Ying San, the Heaven Dou Ice Scorpion, or the other human companions. But she had to consider Guo Nian.
"But..."
"I know the Ice Roc's grievances."
Guo Nian touched the Ice Empress's cold shell, soothing her as she gently said, "Although I can't kill Mo Yu, there are other ways to deal with those humans."
Other ways?
The Ice Empress's nature was similar to Guo Nian's. She couldn't imagine what other way Guo Nian could mean.
But Guo Nian had a wicked streak, too. She lowered her voice and said, "Since the Heaven Dou Ice Scorpion and the Heaven Dou Ice Silkworm want to take you as the second martial soul, then we might as well help them out and send the second martial soul they want right to their doorstep. But... they can't decide what that second martial soul is."
The Ice Empress's eyes lit up.
So she meant that!
The Ice Empress thought it over, then her eyes brightened as she realized Guo Nian's plan might actually work.
"Ice Silkworm! That piece of trash wants to become Mo Yu's second martial soul? Then let him have it!"
The Ice Empress clapped her little hands, already picturing a wonderful outcome.
Although the Ice Roc had ice and spiritual attributes, the Ice Silkworm race was at the very bottom of the soul beast hierarchy in the far north, and was despised by many. They were so weak that, apart from fungi, every creature in the far north was their natural enemy. As a result, Ice Silkworms rarely lived to a thousand years, let alone ten thousand. Even reaching a hundred years was exceptional.
Making an Ice Silkworm the Heaven Dou Ice Scorpion's martial soul would be the most satisfying revenge.
What surprised the Ice Empress, though, was that Guo Nian actually shook her head slowly.
"Although the Ice Silkworm isn't a bad choice, it's not good enough. The Heaven Dou Ice Silkworm is the only soul beast that can live for a million years. If Mo Yu really awakens the Ice Silkworm martial soul, and the Heaven Dou Ice Scorpion eventually becomes his ancestor, perhaps we can still find a way to make his martial soul bloom into something special."
"Since we've decided on this, then we must choose a martial soul worse than the Ice Silkworm. That way, even the Heaven Dou Ice Silkworm won't know how to save his martial soul."
A martial soul worse than the Ice Silkworm...
Surely there wasn't a soul beast like that anywhere in the entire far north?
As though she'd guessed what the Ice Empress was thinking, Guo Nian curled her lips into a faint smile. "There's indeed a soul beast like that in the far north, but it lives outside the core region, in the frozen forest. That vast stretch of frozen land is home to it."
"Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm."
Hearing the name of that soul beast, the Ice Empress's eyes widened.
As one of the three great Heavenly Kings of the far north, the Ice Empress had heard of the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm.
It could be said that the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm was even rarer than the Ice Jade Scorpion race she belonged to. But it wasn't rare because it was powerful or difficult to breed. It was rare because it was too weak.
The soul beasts living around Dark Demon Ice City were all much stronger. Their young had a survival rate of less than one in a thousand, and even once grown, they were often killed by predators. The Ice Silkworm race was also delicious and nutritious, making it a popular delicacy among other soul beasts in the far north. But the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm... no soul beast even wanted to eat it.
It was simply too small. You could step on one without even noticing, and might crush it to death.
From the perspective of a martial soul, the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm was just a thin, sparse white thread. It looked like a moving pile of silk scraps, and its defensive power was practically nonexistent. Apart from that flimsy defense, the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm had no other abilities and basically no offensive power. Its only skill was to release a weak chill that clung to the target's skin, causing persistent numbness and itching. It could also have a slight sedative effect.
For a martial soul, even a little extra soul power could help with training. But compared to the other soul beasts, this thing's abilities were laughably weak.
If the Ice Roc race was already a rare existence that could live for a thousand years, then the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm was so rare that not even one in ten thousand survived a hundred years. And even a ten-thousand-year-old Ice Roc would probably lose to it.
Just as Guo Nian had said, if the Frost-Silk Ice Silkworm became Mo Yu's martial soul, even the million-year-old Heaven Dou Ice Silkworm might not be able to turn things around.
You're amazing, Guo Nian!
But... I really like this!
A glimmer flashed in the Ice Empress's eyes, and anticipation began to stir in her heart.
All she hoped was that Mo Yu would break through the twenty-thousand-year mark soon and come to the far north...
