It turned out that for a city-state the size of Nazumah, ten years wasn't enough time to recover its fighting strength after an elite force had been wiped out.

Facing Demacia's waves of attacks, the hastily conscripted citizens had decent morale at first, but little else going for them—and once they realized how poorly they fought, even their morale began to crumble.

Wherever you went, untrained militia could only win when the odds were in their favor. The moment things turned against them, they panicked.

After the Demacians had battered the walls this way for three straight days, Nazumah's defenders were thoroughly demoralized. Although the Demacians had yet to seize any section of the walls, panic was inevitably spreading.

Inside the city, Varus and Xu Yuyan were waiting for Blake to seek them out. They could see perfectly well that, given the disparity in the quality of the Demacian and Nazumah armies, the city's fall was only a matter of time, no matter how high its walls stood or how complete its defenses were—unless they called for help.

What Varus and Xu Yuyan hadn't expected was that, although Nazumah's Harbor Governor, Blake, had reportedly lost his temper several times during military meetings, he still hadn't come to them to ask the Sun God Cult for help.

Did he have some other support to rely on?
