Varus himself wasn't much good at giving orders. He was better at disrupting the enemy's command.
As long as the enemy lost their organization, his own side would enjoy a significant advantage!
That was why he had chosen to pick off the enemy by name, striking from among the ordinary soldiers.
And yet, even though Varus had been so underhanded, he never would have guessed there was someone even more devious here. Aphelios had watched as the Lunar Legion's junior officers and even its Lunar Warriors were picked off one by one, waiting until Varus's position was revealed before finally making his move.
Or rather, the deaths of those Lunar Warriors had given Aphelios an even greater advantage.
Because the soldiers had died, but their moonstone weapons remained.
Without needing any further communication, Laruun, far away at Guihimalu Temple, transferred control of the moonstone weapons. After Varus picked off another commander who was trying to rally the troops, Aphelios was finally ready.
The moonstone weapons in the pools of blood were assembled in a bizarre configuration.
Countless spears, longswords, and sabers were pieced together into a terrifying cannon. Inside the outpost, Aphelios struggled to operate the massive weapon and lock onto Varus's position.
Moonstone wasn't a heavy material, but the muzzle of the cannon in Aphelios's hands was large enough for a person to fit inside. And to avoid alerting Varus, Aphelios couldn't brace it against the outpost window. He had to hold it up and aim by sheer strength...
On top of that, the outpost offered limited visibility and a narrow firing angle. Aphelios had to wait as Varus picked off several more unlucky victims before he finally found an angle from which to shoot!
Good!
Now!
The firing angle was perfect, and the target was within range!
