What Air Superiority Means

The sun had climbed high when the air battle that began at Eight Paths Slope and continued as far as a point twenty miles north of the Imperial Capital Army's temporary defensive position finally came to an official end.

Once Shyvana had locked onto Gaguel's dragonhawk, isolated him, and then captured him alongside two other members of the First Flying Squadron, the Winged Legion had lost all ability to fight.

From its commander, Gaguel, down to the captains and deputy captains of most of its squads, almost every commander had either been killed or captured. The Legion's officers carried banners of various sizes to make it easier to direct their troops, so the Northern Territory Air Force had simply targeted the dragon riders carrying banners and cleanly wiped out the Winged Legion's backbone.

The Winged Legion's ranks still existed, but by this point they had next to no influence on the battle. They could no longer organize any effective aerial attacks, defenses, interceptions, or support. All they could do was handle a few communications tasks, and that was it.

And that meant the Northern Territory Air Force had gained complete control of the skies over the battlefield. The skies above the Northern Territory—and even all of Demacia—were theirs to roam at will!
