The Conservative Faction's proposal sounded reasonable. As long as Karya could demonstrate that he had a way to fight the Void, then even handing over the Karya's Relics to him would be the right thing to do.

But what they were hoping for wasn't that Karya would succeed in closing the Void Rift. They hoped he would fail—and preferably die in the process.

They'd give you ten Karya's Relics, then Ixtal would stand by and do nothing.

If you can't close the Void Rift, don't blame me for turning my back on you.

Besides, if Karya took Malphite and left without doing anything about the Void Rift, the Conservative Faction would have achieved its goal all the same. They could then demand that the Radical Faction take responsibility.

The Radical Faction was the one that wanted to work with Karya!

So their partner had broken the agreement and run off. Surely the Radical Faction should take full responsibility for the mess, right?

That would leave the Radical Faction to deal with the Void Rift.

Throughout all this, no matter what Karya chose, the Conservative Faction only had to run their mouths. They could stand on the moral high ground and point fingers while Karya and the Radical Faction handled the actual work. It was, you could say, entirely in keeping with the Conservative Faction's usual style.

The Radical Faction naturally wasn't foolish enough to accept the proposal outright. They soon came up with a counter: Qiyana pointed out that doing so would leave them completely exposed to criticism, and they wouldn't be able to keep the Karya's Relics afterward, either. Ixtal had to take part in dealing with the Void Rift—and make a real contribution.

After all... closing the Void Rift was for the sake of all Runeterra.
