To Kik, who had spent twenty years running restaurants in Freljord, the metaphor was a little abstract. He still couldn't quite grasp its deeper meaning.
But that didn't stop him from smiling knowingly the first time he heard it. As a former professional chef and now a professional restaurant manager, Kik figured the Three Towns of Fucheng might just be the great pot Her Majesty Luxanna had in mind.
Whether they were Freljordian barbarians who had trekked overland, wealthy merchants who had sailed in from the sea, or rich landowners from the north, newly minted tycoons who had made their fortunes in Freljord... All of them were like ingredients from every corner of the world. Driven by all kinds of reasons, they came to Freljord and willingly threw themselves into that blazing-hot pot.
Then, under the stir-fry of an unseen pair of hands, they soon took on the flavor of Freljord.
Kik reckoned he was still a long way from being an "ingredient." His Kik's Grill already had a modest reputation, but he figured that a small-time citizen like him was more like one of the spices tossed into that great pot.
He might not look like much, but he was what gave it flavor.
