This wasn't the first time Ashe had fought Sejuani.
The two had been childhood friends. They had once spent their days together as companions, and in the Freljord, companions weren't just friends—they were often sparring partners, too. Besides, even setting those sparring matches aside, Ashe had fought Sejuani once before, when she chose to lead the Hearthguard away.
Later, when Winter's Claw besieged Frostport, the two had clashed head-on again. So Ashe was thoroughly familiar with Sejuani's moves and habits.
This wasn't the first time Ashe had fought the Lost Ones, either.
Though Lux had handled the entire battle that morning, Ashe, as the Warmother of Avarosa, had clashed with the Lost Ones plenty of times. The beasts might have their own hunting grounds, but given even the slightest opportunity, they would expand their territory. The Warmothers nearby had to take a firm stance to stop them from pushing their luck.
Ashe had once led the Hearthguard on a migration of nearly ten thousand miles, from Ornkall to Frostport. Along the way, she had drawn her bow and aimed at the Lost Ones to ward them off more than once. She had plenty of experience with that.
But facing Sejuani as one of the Lost Ones was undoubtedly a first for Ashe.
When Ashe followed her usual habits and tried to suppress Sejuani with a volley of arrows, hoping to put some distance between them, Sejuani—who had accepted Volibear's power and become one of the Lost Ones—didn't dodge as she had before, nor did she stupidly take the arrows head-on like an ordinary Lost One. Instead, she turned and faced Ashe's arrows with the half of her body made of ice.
"Thud, thud, thud—"
After a brief series of dull thumps, the ice arrows Ashe had fired stuck into Sejuani.
