With Karya's arrival, Freljord City took on another role in addition to serving as a forward base: it became a base for transforming the ice dragons. Karya had brought over the captured Frostguard Priests to "make use of them instead of letting them go to waste," turning them into a source of magic power for the Elemental Dragons to change their elemental affinities.
And because their faith had crumbled, the whole process went very smoothly. The Frostguard Priests obediently played the part of batteries, and there was no resistance to speak of.
As the ritual's officiant, Karya had watched the entire process. When he and Lux discussed the size of the Ice Dragon Legion and the candidates for its commander, he couldn't help clicking his tongue in amazement.
"This is what happens when you pin all your hopes on one person."
"I feel like there's a hidden meaning in that, Teacher Karya." Lux rolled her eyes. "I've always been against personality cults."
"Well said. But you can't avoid them just by being opposed to them." Karya shrugged. "Stay vigilant, stay vigilant!"
"My office is already running out of room for all the warning bells." Lux snorted. "New aristocratism, monopoly capitalism, Greater Demacia-ism, personality cults... I have far too many things to worry about."
"With the crown comes the weight of responsibility." Karya cheerfully settled into his chair and took out a list. "Take a look. These are my candidates for the Dragon Legion. I've already set pretty strict requirements, but there are still more candidates than I expected."
