The small town that had once stood on Demacia's northwestern frontier had grown into a major commercial city of great importance throughout Runeterra.
All kinds of goods from every corner of the world were gathered, weighed, wholesaled, and sold here. Some traveled overland to the docks before being loaded onto ships; others were shipped through the harbor and sold inland. The Three Towns of Fucheng were like a strong, powerful heart, drawing in and pumping out blood made of gold with every beat, nourishing countless people whose lives were connected to it.
The flow of money never slept.
And so Freljord never slept, either.
But that saying was actually somewhat misleading. After expanding continuously, Freljord had become the Three Towns of Fucheng—and among them, only New Freljord Port never slept.
Even today, Freljord City still upheld many of Freljord's northern traditions. One especially important tradition was wintering indoors.
Wintering indoors meant exactly what it sounded like: staying inside during winter.
Before Luxanna came to Freljord, every winter, when the aftershocks of Breath of Anivia reached this frontier town, the people of Freljord would stop most of their work and return to their settlements. They spent the long, cold winter inside homes with thick walls.
This tradition had arisen partly because Freljord's productivity had been low at the time. Hunting and gathering alike were difficult in winter. Another reason was the bitter cold: it was hard to go out, and fuel was scarce in Freljord, so staying home helped people conserve as much as possible.
