As a result, the holidays people celebrated often differed from one region to another.
In the west, near Mount Targon, Karya kept a close watch on the mountain gods. Yet in places like Nareumajel, local customs had inevitably come to resemble those of the Laquor people in some ways. They paid more attention to celestial phenomena, often commemorating the conjunctions of constellations as holidays.
In the north, coastal regions paid closer attention to the tides and ocean currents. Every year, as summer approached, the seawater grew warmer, and fish became plentiful. Uzeris and Nazumah both held various fishing festivals.
Along the Shurima River, one of Shurima's few farming regions, the harvest came twice a year. Once the crops had been gathered, farmers would come together to celebrate and share the joy of the harvest.
Farther south, near the southern range of Mount Targon, the holidays in Zerima were closely tied to commerce.
Across the vast lands of Shurima, from coast to desert, from mountains to hills, every region had its own distinctive customs and traditions. To strengthen the Shuriman people's sense of unity, after the Shuriman Empire was founded, a brand-new holiday was officially proposed. With the Empire's backing, it eventually became popular throughout the country.
That holiday was Shurima's National Day, commemorating the birth of the Shuriman Empire.
Every National Day, Shurima City held grand celebrations, and those marking years ending in zero or one hundred were especially lavish.
Even grander than those celebrations was the millennium anniversary.
