Ch. 573Farewell, Jarvan III

Jarvan III died after entrusting Jarvan IV with his analysis of Demacia’s crisis and the future of the Lightshield Family. Jarvan IV became king and called for Demacia to unite against Noxus and the Noble Allied Army.

  • Jarvan III stopped Jarvan IV from seeking Kayle’s help and urged him to preserve the Lightshield Family’s rule.
  • Jarvan III gave Jarvan IV his final counsel: defeat the Noxians, build influence through victories, and unite Demacia’s forces while managing the Noble Council and supernatural allies.
  • Jarvan III recalled his regrets as a father, praised Jarvan IV, and placed his crown on his son’s head before dying at Dawn Castle.
  • Jarvan IV grieved briefly, then ordered the war drums and bells sounded and mobilized the Garrison Legion, the Fearless Vanguard, and the Winged Legion.
  • Jarvan IV sent the Noble Council an ultimatum declaring anyone who raised a blade against Demacians a traitor and calling for a united Demacia.

Ch. 574Northern Border, Slow to Catch On

After learning of Demacia’s upheaval and the Noxian invasion, Lux prepared Freljord to defend itself while avoiding the royalist-noble conflict. Sona departed as Freljord’s representative for the Tobicia front, where Jarvan IV and the Noxian army were also moving toward a major battle.

  • Lux spent a winter visit with Peter and Ogesha, who urged her to focus on developing Freljord and stay clear of Demacia’s political turmoil.
  • After news arrived that Jarvan IV had been crowned, Peter and Ogesha left for Silvermine City, and Lux consulted Sona and Karya about Freljord’s response.
  • Lux and Karya decided Freljord would resist Noxus but would not yet send troops, instead strengthening its military organization and preparing an intelligence delegation.
  • Lux assigned Sona to represent Freljord at the front and arranged for intelligence agents to accompany her; Karya praised Lux’s planning and ordered her back to studying Advanced Elemental Theory.
  • Lux gave her Elemental Golem the ability to start itself, and Sona departed for Demacia City with a letter from Lux.
  • Jarvan IV led the Fearless Vanguard and Winged Legion east toward Tobicia, while Swain’s Noxian forces fortified Tobicia City and secured their supply route.

Ch. 575[0570] Army Reorganization

Demacia and Noxus reorganized their armies during a tense standoff at Tobicia, while Luxanna and Karya unified and prepared Fosberon’s people for war. After the rival armies began moving in spring, Luxanna issued a general mobilization order at the Spring Speech.

  • Jarvan IV established a Subordinate System that let noble lords command their own troops while he gradually gained direct control over selected logistical units.
  • Swain fortified Tobicia, managed rival Noxian warbands through logistics and fair rewards, and considered a combat method proposed by the Pale Lady despite distrusting her motives.
  • Karya’s history lessons and Fosberon’s visible development strengthened the Northern Wanderers, Hextech users, and clerks’ shared pride and sense of purpose.
  • Luxanna and Karya established the Northern Vanguard and the Glory Group to organize Fosberon’s workers and maintain unity of thought.
  • Sona and Yiva relayed news from the front as the Demacian and Noxian armies began moving in spring, and Luxanna ordered general mobilization during the Spring Speech.

Ch. 576[0571] The General Mobilization of Soldiers and Civilians

Lux publicly ordered Freljord’s general mobilization after Jarvan IV requested that Galio be sent to the Tobicia front. She redirected the region’s production and manpower toward military preparation and waited for an opportunity to act.

  • Lux issued the mobilization order and arranged for Galio to be charged with magic and hauled to the front to fight the Noxians.
  • Lux published an open letter urging Freljordians to support Demacia’s defensive war and protect their shared future.
  • Freljord redirected factories, farms, trade, and supplies toward military needs, including Rune Steel shields, armor, weapons, and grain stockpiles.
  • Lux increased the Northern Wanderers’ training, formed a three-hundred-member mage corps under Karya, and expanded the clerks’ and intelligence teams’ duties.
  • After Freljord completed its preparations, Lux waited for a chance to act as the Tobicia front developed.

Ch. 577The Higher the Tao, the Taller the Devil

Jarvan IV prepared Demacia for an offensive against Noxus, secretly arranging for northern legions and the Colossus of Justice to join the campaign. Swain had already mapped the region and prepared countermeasures and an ambush, leaving both commanders convinced that the other was about to walk into a trap.

  • Jarvan IV marked another victory on his map and kept Demacian morale high by displaying captured Noxian equipment along the Tobicia River.
  • Jarvan IV told Garen and Taric that he was waiting for the Colossus of Justice and had secretly arranged for the First and Third Legions and the Illuminators' Silencers to support the campaign.
  • Swain revealed that the Noxian scouting parties were Black Rose members sent to die, while Noxian War Builders had already mapped the surrounding region.
  • Swain prepared War Mage Corps tactics to counter the Colossus of Justice and planned to block Demacia's reinforcing legions before striking the main force.
  • Swain maintained Noxian morale with a broad military merit system as he finalized his ambush preparations at Tobicia Fortress.

Ch. 578Tidal Message

Jarvan IV used the Tobicia River’s spring flood and the nobles’ disobedient private troops to bring the Demacian army under royal control and cross the river. After securing a foothold and repelling Noxian counterattacks, he trapped Tobicia Fortress’s defenders and believed victory was near.

  • Jarvan IV ordered the Demacian army to prepare for a river crossing as the spring flood arrived, while many nobles objected and their private troops followed the king’s direct orders.
  • A noble had a squad leader beaten to death, so his soldiers mutinied, brought him to Jarvan IV, and pledged their loyalty to the royal family; within two days, more than a third of the nobles’ private troops did the same.
  • Jarvan IV reorganized the troops and led the Demacian army across the Tobicia River at night through seven prepared fords after the water level dropped.
  • The Demacians captured the riverbank garrison’s camp, and Taric led the Fearless Vanguard in routing a Noxian battle group sent to counterattack.
  • Jarvan IV sent troops to threaten Noxian supply lines and had his army taunt Tobicia Fortress under Galio’s protection while the Winged Legion searched for supply convoys and pressured the Gate of Sorrows.
  • Jarvan IV told Garen that victory was in their grasp as the Noxians remained behind Tobicia Fortress’s closed gates.

Ch. 579[0574] The Ko Fight and the Chase

Swin used the Demacians’ supply crossing to spring a trap with the Frogmen Legion and the Fist of Fire Mage Corps, while Jarvan IV struggled to keep his army supplied. After the first convoy burned and a second got through, Swin prepared a larger operation as the Demacians built their pontoon bridge.

  • Swin anticipated that Jarvan IV would send supplies across the Tobicia River and secretly positioned the Frogmen Legion and Fist of Fire Mage Corps along the crossing route.
  • The Trifarian Legion and Arcane Blade Mage Corps attacked the Demacian riverbank, but Garen and the Fearless Vanguard repelled them as the supply boats launched.
  • The Frogmen drilled holes in the boats and the Fist of Fire mages set them ablaze, while Morgana shielded the Demacian soldiers and the food was destroyed.
  • Jarvan IV ordered fishing nets spread across the river, Nullstone added to the boats, and Morgana to accompany the next convoy; the shipment reached shore despite several boats sinking.
  • Swin gathered his troops inside the Tobicia Fortress and began the ko trap as the Demacians worked to build their pontoon bridge.

Ch. 580The Crow of the Night

Swin used Negative Energy artifacts to create a demonic playground west of Tobicia and awaken the demons Mordekaiser, Evelynn, and Fiddlesticks, hoping to force Demacia to abandon its campaign. Fiddlesticks attacked villages and towns in the Demacian Plains, and the chapter ended with Kayle and Morgana identifying the disappearances as a demon’s work.

  • Swin sent Mage Corps across the Wol River to destroy Negative Energy artifacts and transform the lands west of Tobicia into a demonic playground.
  • LeBlanc’s spare corpses revived and terrorized settlements as Swin’s plan awakened Mordekaiser, Evelynn, and Fiddlesticks.
  • Fiddlesticks appeared in a village, killed the night watchman, and caused the villagers and animals to vanish before moving toward the next settlement.
  • Jarvan IV received reports that more than twenty thousand people had disappeared from five villages and two towns, along with their livestock.
  • Jarvan IV summoned Kayle and Morgana, and the sisters independently declared that a demon was responsible.

Ch. 581The Demon's Way of Survival

Jarvan IV sent Kayle and Morgana to investigate a demon’s appearance west of Tobicia, while Karya learned that the threat was likely Fiddlesticks and rushed to the front. After reaching the demon’s paradise, Karya learned that the Demon of Fear had been drawn there and began considering how to confront him.

  • Jarvan IV asked Kayle and Morgana to investigate the demon west of Tobicia, and they left the camp while Taric and Jarvan IV stayed to hold the front.
  • Kayle and Morgana reached the deserted village and sensed the lingering fear left by the demon.
  • Karya learned from Evelynn and Mordekaiser that both demons could sense a demon’s paradise near Tobicia, and he went there with Shyvana to warn Sona.
  • Karya sensed the temporary Negative Energy around the demon’s paradise and asked Mordekaiser which demon had been invited.
  • Mordekaiser identified Fiddlesticks, the Demon of Fear, and Karya began devising a way to deal with him.

Ch. 582[0577] The Mastermind's Calculations

Karya realized that the Demon Park’s summons and the demons’ behavior concealed schemes involving Rammus, Swain, and the Black Rose. While every faction maneuvered around the Battle of Tobicia, Karya’s explorations of the Shadow Realm had unknowingly disrupted their plans and left him well positioned to act.

  • Karya noticed that Mordekaiser and Evelynn were terrified of the Demon of Fear and reasoned that someone intended to use the weakened demons as prey.
  • Rammus planned to devour Mordekaiser and Evelynn, then claim Swain’s body and soul after the Noxians lost, using technically truthful information to trap Swain in a demonic contract.
  • LeBlanc and Vladimir supported Noxus while secretly seeking a route into the Shadow Realm, where they intended to establish an immortal kingdom and abandon Swain.
  • Swain continued preparing for victory at Tobicia, unaware that Rammus, the Black Rose, and Noxian nobles all had their own plans for him and the army.
  • Karya’s earlier actions had altered the schemes: Swain’s soul would not be available to Rammus, and the Black Rose’s intended entrance to the Shadow Realm lay in the mobilized Freljord.
  • After connecting the factions’ plans, Karya recognized that his campaign against demons had placed him in a favorable position amid the Battle of Tobicia.

Ch. 583[0578] Divine Soldiers Descend

Kayle and Morgana returned to Jarvan IV after finding evidence of the Demon of Fear, prompting Demacia to send its strongest forces away. Swain exploited their absence to launch a full Noxian assault, and just as Jarvan IV faced a charge of Earth Dragon Lizards and Sion, Galio descended onto the battlefield.

  • Kayle and Morgana decided to return to Jarvan IV rather than pursue the apparent Demon of Fear, while Rammus watched the demon paradise through hidden crow eyes.
  • Swain ordered the Noxian army to advance after learning that three targets had left the Demacian camp and only Jarvan IV remained there.
  • Jarvan IV prepared Demacia's connected camp for an assault, but the Noxians drove burning-powder-laden Earth Dragon Lizards toward its defenses, with Sion following behind.
  • Jarvan IV killed one Earth Dragon Lizard with Demacia's war banner and raised an earthen barrier with the Dragon-Binding Spear, but Swain opened a gap and Sion urged the remaining beasts forward.
  • As Jarvan IV and the Demacian soldiers prepared to face the charge, Galio descended over the battlefield and announced his arrival.

Ch. 584The Last Swain

At the Battle of Tobicia, Swain’s carefully prepared tactics drove Demacia toward defeat, but Jarvan IV awakened the power of his ancestors and killed Swain after the demons abandoned him. The Demacians celebrated their victory, while Rammus turned to claim the power of two other demons.

  • Swain used enchanted troops, heavy arrows, and Shadow Mist to counter Galio and push the Demacian army toward the Tobicia River.
  • Galio was blinded by the Shadow Mist and landed in the river, while Jarvan IV led a desperate charge against Swain.
  • Jarvan IV drew on the legacy of Demacia’s kings and fought his way through the Noxian ranks to reach Swain.
  • Rammus revealed that he had never intended to help Swain win and abandoned him as Jarvan IV struck him down.
  • The Demacians celebrated the victory, and Rammus prepared to claim the power of two other demons.

Ch. 585The Little Liar and the Great Liar

Rammus tried to trap Karya in a demon contract by trading secrets for information about the Regent Prince, but Karya already knew every secret Rammus offered. The contract bound Rammus to Karya, who revealed his identity and captured the Secret Demon.

  • Rammus flew to the Demon's Playground to hunt Mordekaiser and Evelynn, confident that he could devour demons whose secrets he understood.
  • Rammus found Mordekaiser bound in yellow sand and confronted the masked stranger controlling it, whom he suspected was connected to the Golden Man.
  • Rammus offered Karya information about the Regent Prince in exchange for Karya's secrets, and they signed a contract requiring each to provide information of equal value.
  • Karya gave Rammus an obscure secret about Aatrox, but the contract rejected Rammus's claims about the Regent Prince because Karya already knew them.
  • Rammus realized Karya had given up his immortality and could not be deceived by the contract; Karya identified himself and trapped Rammus on his shoulder.

Ch. 586[0581] Aatrox's Promise

After Demacia defeated Noxus at Tobicia, Aatrox emerged from the black mist to fulfill Swin's last wish by killing the Winged Sisters and reversing the battle's outcome. He nearly killed Kayle, but Karya used the Secret Demon and Rammus to seal him and send him back to the land of the undead, leaving the battlefield and its survivors bewildered.

  • After Swin's death and the Black Rose loyalists' retreat, Demacia's forces routed the Noxian army and trapped thirty thousand troops inside Tobicia Fortress.
  • Aatrox entered the living world and decided to fulfill Swin's last wish by killing Kayle and Morgana, whom he blamed for claiming credit for Demacia's victory.
  • Aatrox attacked the Winged Sisters, mocked Kayle's claims about driving out demons, and made the Demacian soldiers question their role in the battle.
  • Aatrox's corruption drove him into a frenzy, and he broke Kayle's wings and shattered Morgana's shield before Kayle stopped his sword with the Judgement's Flame.
  • Karya appeared through a three-eyed crow, used the Secret Demon and spatially charged sand to seal Aatrox, and pulled him back into the land of the undead.
  • Jarvan IV and Taric searched the ruined battlefield but found no trace of Aatrox or the Winged Sisters.

Ch. 587Reunion

Karya sealed the out-of-control Aatrox inside his sand world, where the two reunited and caught up after thousands of years. Karya approved of Aatrox’s path with the Black Mist Legion, then sent him back out and prepared to act against the Void himself.

  • Karya used Rammus’s power to seal Aatrox away, allowing Kayle and Morgana to escape.
  • Aatrox woke in Karya’s sand world and reunited with his former teacher, who had relinquished his Ascended Power.
  • Aatrox told Karya about his hardships, his connection to death, and his plan to command the Black Mist Legion.
  • Karya praised Aatrox’s chosen path, warned him not to tear the veil between life and death, and asked the Legion to join a future counterattack against the Void.
  • After Aatrox recovered, Karya kicked him out of the failing sand world and resealed the three-eyed Crow.

Ch. 588Epilogue: The Old Order and the New Order

Jarvan IV faced the loss of the Winged Sisters as he planned to reshape Demacia’s government and the Illuminators, while Lux completed a new order in Freljord. The chapter ended by outlining growing conflicts across Runeterra and announcing the end of Volume Six and the next volume.

  • After Demacia shattered the Noxian army at Tobicia, the Darkin and black mist returned and took the Winged Sisters.
  • Jarvan IV abandoned his hopes of becoming pope and planned instead to become a cardinal bishop to consolidate royal and religious authority.
  • Lux’s leadership and policies established a new order in Freljord, where the Fosberons supported her rule and shared in its benefits.
  • The chapter described looming crises and plans across Runeterra, including Noxus’s fragmentation, Zaun’s expansion into Ixtal, and threats involving the Void and World Runes.
  • The author concluded Volume Six, announced the next volume, and noted that a Zaun side story would appear the following day.

Ch. 589A Side Story: Prequel I—Karya Fell from the Sky

Karya arrived in ancient Shurima, where Setaqa’s tribe took him in after he proved too weak for ordinary camp work. While cleaning Skarrash dung, Karya recognized a scent like ambergris and began forming an idea, then received his first meal in Runeterra.

  • Setaqa found Karya injured in the desert and brought him before her Shuriman tribe, whose members gave him the name Karya.
  • Karya followed Setaqa to camp and tried to help, but he could not handle the tribe’s heavy tools or match their supernatural strength.
  • Setaqa assigned Karya to shovel dung from the tribe’s giant Skarrash, and he worked hard despite the awful smell.
  • Karya detected an ambergris-like fragrance in the Skarrash dung and came up with a bold idea.
  • Karya cleaned himself with sand, asked Setaqa for food, and ate Great Sai Soup as his first meal in Runeterra.

Ch. 590An Extra Story · Prequel II · The Outsider Who Joined the Shurimans

Karya joined the Shuriman tribe by turning Skarrash dung into fragrant incense, learning their language, and helping them after their employer betrayed them. After rallying the dejected tribe, he persuaded Setaqa to sell the incense at a southern oasis, and the Shurimans set out with renewed spirits.

  • Karya made aromatic black incense powder from dried Skarrash dung, and Setaqa agreed to teach him Shuriman in exchange for it.
  • Over nearly a month and two migrations, Karya learned basic Shuriman while the tribe traveled to fight for the younger son of an oasis owner.
  • The Shurimans defeated the elder son's hired warriors, but the younger son broke his promise to admit them to the oasis and instead asked Setaqa to marry him.
  • Karya struck the younger son with a dung-filled fragrant stone, and the Shurimans accepted Karya as one of their own.
  • Karya encouraged the disappointed tribe, proposed selling his incense powder, and Setaqa led them toward a southern oasis to trade and resupply.

Ch. 591Aftermath of the War

Jarvan IV returned from the victory at Tobicia and used his new authority to reshape Demacia’s nobility, military, and taxes. Later, in Freljord, Lux teased Garen about his feelings for a Noxian soldier and rejected his suggestion that she become Queen of Demacia.

  • Jarvan IV negotiated a ceasefire with Darius, forcing Noxus to surrender territory, withdraw its warbands from Valoran city-states, and accept military restrictions.
  • Jarvan IV returned to Demacia City to public acclaim, became a Cardinal Bishop of the Illuminators, and used his authority to settle loyal soldiers in the new territory and strip nobles of command over their private armies.
  • Jarvan IV secured tax ceilings for the nobles’ fiefs, shifting popular anger from the royal family onto the lords as nearly a year passed.
  • Garen visited Lux in Freljord and described Jarvan IV’s reforms, then suggested Lux might have been better suited to lead the Crown Guard family.
  • Garen asked Lux whether she had considered becoming Queen of Demacia, but she told him to wait until he had settled down and found her a sister-in-law.
  • Lux deduced that Garen was in love with a Noxian soldier and teased him until he admitted that his romance had not progressed to introducing her to the family.

Ch. 592[0584] Turmoil in the Shadow Realm

After Lux discovered unfamiliar footprints in the Shadow Realm, she mobilized the Hextech Mage Corps to investigate. The tracks belonged to Black Rose forces led by LeBlanc and Vladimir, whom Vayne had lured toward the entrance while seeking help against them.

  • Garen left Freljord after refusing to answer Lux's questions, and Lux reflected on Karya's influence on the people around her.
  • A Hextech work group reported unfamiliar footprints and trampled compost at the Shadow Realm entrance, so Lux inspected the site and found tracks from a large group.
  • Lux ordered an internal Glory group meeting and deployed the First and Seventh Battle Sequences of the Hextech Mage Corps to guard the Shadow Realm entrances and stand by.
  • LeBlanc and Vladimir led the Black Rose into Demacia, secretly established a foothold, and entered the Shadow Realm to pursue immortality.
  • Vayne ambushed LeBlanc and Vladimir but was wounded when they counterattacked, so she led Black Rose forces in circles toward the Freljord entrance.
  • Lux mobilized her forces after the compost workers found the tracks, unaware that Vayne had drawn the Black Rose toward them.
