The battle was going just about as Abayin, the demonic archer under the "Hawk of Light" from Falconia, had expected. Before they reached the city walls, the cannons, catapults, and giant bolts from the ballistae had inflicted heavy casualties on their army of war demons and apostles—at least two or three hundred, perhaps more. But a mere thousand meters was still far too short a distance for them.
Besides, the walls of the City of Holy Light stood only a few meters tall on average, with the highest sections reaching barely a dozen meters. Compared with Falconia's fortifications—which stood at least hundreds, if not thousands, of meters tall, were armed to the teeth, sturdy as doomsday fortresses, and bristled with numerous bastion-like platforms and countless cannons—this was nothing.
Wasn't it?
Although they had instantly paid for it with nearly a fifth of their forces, they had still managed to reach the enemy walls, climb them with little effort, and charge into the city, officially bringing it down.
That's right—they'd climbed over!
The low walls, barely a few meters tall on average and no more than a dozen or so at their highest, posed no problem for the war demons. They stood five or six meters tall on average, and each had its own abilities.
Even the highest sections were easy to leap onto for Abayin himself. He stood only a little over three meters tall and looked like a halfling growing out of the backside of a one-eyed "wolf-deer." It was no challenge at all.
The times had changed.
Ever since the Netherworld and magic had descended, the walls and laughable defensive measures those foolish humans had once prided themselves on had become utterly feeble. Their destruction was inevitable!
By contrast, only their master—the great Lord Griffith, the "Hawk of
