At the same time...

Hundreds of miles away, the lighthouse, resembling a lonely fortress, hung high in the sky, tens of thousands of meters above the ground. Beneath the apocalypse's darkened heavens, it radiated a cold and solitary aura.

Rumble—!

A vast bank of dark clouds stretched for more than ten kilometers directly below it, with lightning flashing and thunder roaring as the winds and clouds churned. The violent thunder sounded like the howls of demons from the apocalypse, while twisted bolts of lightning darted and writhed through the clouds like savage serpents, a terrifying sight.

Yet the lighthouse had risen above the clouds long ago, where it now hovered steadily, unmoving and serene like a god looking down upon all creation. It paid no mind to the terrifying streaks of electricity that flashed and twisted through the storm clouds below.

This was the lighthouse, humanity's last hope in the apocalyptic world!

Of course, that was merely the opinion of the people aboard the lighthouse. Still, unless the dreadful beasts could fly or the lighthouse itself fell from the sky, there truly wasn't much that could threaten it.

Amid the thunder and lightning, in a part of the lighthouse's upper levels—in the hall of the Light and Shadow Order's Discipline Hall—the dim lights swayed unsteadily. Booms and flashes of lightning occasionally came from outside, casting an eerie, shifting light over the reliefs on the walls.

But none of that mattered. What mattered was that, as she did every day, the Lightbearer Van Lu, dressed in a sexy gown, walked with light, alluring steps toward Charles, who sat high on the dais, carrying medical equipment in her hands.

Then, as she had so often before, she bent slightly, her eyes full of concern and tenderness, and carefully tended to Charles's wounds.
